House Republicans plan to ratchet up scrutiny of the IRS during a hearing Thursday morning where agency workers are expected to discuss the involvement of high-level officials in slowing down applications from Tea Party groups.
For the first time, the House oversight committee has invited two key agency officials to testify. Republican leaders of the committee claimed Wednesday that one of them recently revealed that the IRS chief counsel's office -- led by a political appointee -- played a role, along with embattled IRS official Lois Lerner, in scrutinizing conservative groups.
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the committee, told Fox News that agency officials in Cincinnati were taking their orders from Washington, and that the investigation needs to look next at both Lerner and the counsel's office.
"As a part of this ongoing investigation, the committees have learned that the IRS Chief Counsel's office in Washington, D.C. has been closely involved in some of the applications," Issa and other Republicans wrote in a letter to IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel.

Well said.
Speier: I have a coloring book and some crayons.
At least you can hear them...I’m trying to watch the CSPAN feed and every 2 seconds, its buffering, then cuts out again....it’s really annoying.
We might could get the truth on this and Benghazi with a couple boxes of duct tape and a few potty chairs....lol.
Lol.
Pictures of conservative parties to look for, pictures of progressive parties redacted.
Thanks for the ping. Having to multitask while watching/listening.
Outrageous!!! that C-Span isn’t covering this live on TV. I assume it will be rebroadcast on TV tonight-—hopefully in prime time and clearly announced beforehand.
Fox isn’t covering either. O’Reilly said last night that “if this doesn’t reignite tomorrow, I think it’s done. You know how we [Americans] are. Concentration’s small, kinda like flitting away.”
WTH? Redacted? Has the “administration” determined this is a matter of national security? Or is this just another executive order?
lol, he had to throw that in.
Rep. Spier up - Liz says exempt groups must be 51% for social welfare (IOW, less than 50 percent political).
Spier - puts up training slides that Liz supposedly might have atteneded. Spier seems to be quite interested in whether progressives were targeted as well.
Spier is trying to minimize that TP was affected ALOT more than progressive groups.
Speier: “There were guidelines for ‘PROGRESSIVE’ groups being targeted, weren’t there?”
We targeted Tea Party groups, but we also targeted Progressive Groups, because they might not be the kind of Progressive group we want. And we have some proof.”
Loathe as I am to agree with BOR...he’s probably right.
Hmmmm...that should be news after this hearing. Jordan is pretty good too.
This is how it is going down....Democrats finally get their all groups were targeted, which will kill this investigation.
Trey Gowdy is in the house! I can see his hair on the bottom of the screen....Things are going to really heat up when he takes the mike!
YES!!!
My congressman is there. He’s a good enough guy but he’s not a fire breather.
Jordan finally gives some clarity to what this hearing is for, why Hull is here.
It is all these guys fault!
We need more like Jordan...he’s direct, professional and doesn’t waste any time getting to the point.
This is a hearing where "there's no there there" except for the DC/Cincinatta connection. I do hope it's a set-up for later testimony.
The dull Rep. Elija Cummings is a male Rachel Jeantel, to be sure.
Right now this is a yawner.
