The latest evidence that climate change is already causing massive damage
Extreme weather patterns spawned by global warming are a serious threat to the nation's energy infrastructure, according to a new report from the Department of Energy, and their destructive effects are already being felt nationwide.
"Increasing temperatures, decreasing water availability, more intense storm events, and sea level rise will each independently, and in some cases in combination, affect the ability of the United States to produce and transmit electricity from fossil, nuclear, and existing and emerging renewable energy sources," the report states.
In the most striking example, the report says climate change contributed to last year's powerful Hurricane Sandy, which ravaged the Northeast, closing ports, pipelines, and oil refineries, and knocking out power to some 8 million customers. And, the report warns, future storms will only get worse.

Here in Virginia, we had the coolest spring on record. So far the summer has turned out to be the coolest I can remember. And I love it.
Last night I caught a little of the Weather Channel. The guy on camera said that, during July, Atlanta normally has 15 days in the nineties. So far they’ve had none, and there are none in the forecast.
You could hear the reluctance in that guy’s voice. The WC is heavily into advancing the global warming agenda, and that was news he really didn’t want to report, LOL.
NASA was created to send Americans to the Moon and beyond. I've been reading a series of reports in the Ventura (Caif.) Star newspaper about a NASA program, funded with $593,000 taxpayer dollars, to indoctrinate local "science" teachers on how to brainwash students about climate change aka global warming.
The second annual NASA-sponsored (and funded) Summer Climate Science Institute and Camp at California State College Channel Islands just ended. One of the science frauds-for-hire, climatologist William Patzert from JPL, was quoted: "The uncertainty is the amount of melting that is arising. The rising oceans really tell the tale. You're living in a warming world...Those are the two unassailable facts about global warming. You can't dispute those two things. After that it gets a little more controversial."
Yes it does! He conveniently avoids mentioning that the process has been going on since the end of the last Ice Age -- about 14,000 years ago -- when ocean levels worldwide were about 300 feet below current levels.

A couple of days ago here in Tucson we were ready to break the longest streak of consecutive days over 100 F.
We equaled the record, but then the next day just would not cooperate at a mere 98 F and, like you say, the reporters were very disappointed...:^)

So the truth is that our current climate is not promoting extremely powerful hurricanes (>cat 3) hitting the US mainland. And our current climate is a cold Pacific with a slightly warm to cooling Atlantic. In this pattern, according to expert Joe Bastardi, hurricanes tend to go up the east coast and not into the gulf. That is why Sandy occurred. And we could get another this season.

They are throwing chaff. The "AGW-97" meme has been unjustifiably expanded to include "weather pattern" changes. Obviously there is 97% agreement that CO2 causes warming (despite some claims to the contrary). The question at hand is whether the minor and benign warming from CO2 (maybe 1/2 degree C) is going to cause weather pattern changes such as the deep upper trough that steered Sandy west. The idea that the pattern could change already because of a little enhancement of warming in the Arctic (alleged to be AGW also) is ludicrous.
The variations in the weather patterns are natural. Similar tracks have occurred in the past. The sea surface temperatures were a bit warmer in spots along Sandy's path, but not particularly warm. There was sea level rise enhancement of the surge from Sandy. But the manmade component of that rise was a few inches at most, the rest being a natural rise that has been ongoing since the 1800's (end of the Little Ice Age).
Not generally. There are cases where the dynamics of temperature contrasts can temporarily strengthen a hurricane. One example is the extratropical transition when the hurricane hits colder waters. Mostly in the tropics, the warmer the water, the stronger the hurricane.
