Iowa state Sen. Joni Ernst (R) will run for retiring Sen. Tom Harkin's (D-Iowa) seat, she announced Wednesday afternoon.
"As a mother, soldier, and a conservative, the values I hold dear, and have fought more than 20 years to protect, are being threatened by the failed policies of this president," she said in a statement on her new campaign website. "Washington has failed us. We need and deserve better leadership. And that's why I am running for U.S. Senate."
Ernst, a lieutenant colonel in Iowa's national guard and first-term state lawmaker, has received encouragement from Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) and Lieutenant Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) to run for the seat.

I think that Ernst has potential and would be a difficult candidate for Democrats to attack. This is a positive development.
I’m ready to send her a donation just on that paragraph about her that was posted—LOL!
She’s certainly one to watch.......

GOPe strikes again, she must be the Dems chosen opponent.
Going to have to do some research on her. Might be good to run a woman in Iowa if the rat candidate is some old guy, but this all hangs on whether she’s a conservative or not.
I am not from there. but after reading her web page and seeing her picture I suddenly feel very optimistic about this one. I already liked her page on facbook.
Thanks Clintonfatigued.
Most recently Harris served as a senior strategist and media consultant for Marco Rubio. He has served as a senior communications strategist for a whos who of GOP officials including Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. John McCain, and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
ANYONE WHO THINKS SHE IS A CONSERVATIVE IS NOT PAYING ATTENTION.

...High-profile media consultant Todd Harris, who also works for Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., tweeted that he joined Ernsts campaign. She has also retained the services of David Polyansky of New Strategies Group...
...Ernst has never faced a competitive election or raised a significant amount of money, so the campaign will test her mettle. Braleys campaign says he has $2 million banked so far for the campaign...
I met Joni last year on the campaign trail for another candidate. Smart, classy, lots of gravitas and presence but also a gutsy quality to her, seems very conservative.
If she can raise money...look out.
The democrats are already attacking her trying to convince conservatives to oppose her because “Branstad forced true conservative Steve King out of the race for his establishment choice”. That tells me they’re don’t want her to win the GOP nomination. Unless that’s what they want us to think!!!! ;) I have built up an immunity to iocane powder.
Unlike the other GOP candidates in the race she’s actually held elective office. Why wouldn’t she be the better choice over a radio talk show host, former US Attorney, and former COS to Senator Grassley? Anyone have any actual facts about her voting record rather than attacks on Brandstad and her media consultant?
I don’t know much about her views, but Iowa is in some ways the Vermont of the Midwest.
