The recession has been over for four years, but the birth rate in the U.S. continues to fall as many people struggle with a sluggish economy and financial uncertainty.
According to a recent analysis by the Pew Institute, since 2007 when there were a record 4,316,233 births, the number of births has been steadily declining, with 4,007,000 births in 2012 - the lowest number since 1998.
Analysts say that the birthrate is dictated by the economy.

It’s not about money. It’s about priorities. Young families get themselves up to their chins in consumer debt and then calculate that there’s no room for a baby in their financial situation. They have chosen the house, the cars and the toys.
There are families having children. They adjust their budgets and their priorities.
The real problem is that Americans are drifting away from Catholic morality. Catholic morality (also known as the morality passed to us by God) properly teaches that the use of contraception is immoral. Many Freepers need to learn this truth.

My wife and I have had four children in the last four years, Five in six. We aren’t quite sure how.
"Breeder" is such a veterinary term.
The key variable here is not a difference in incomes. It's a difference in values.

As a Christian “breeder” I agree with the previous Pope’s criticism of the selfishness of those who choose not to breed. On the other hand, many who aren’t breeding today don’t have a house, cars, toys, or a job.

Come to Kearny NJ; if you see 100 people, 70 will be Hispanic. Half of them will be women, and 1/4 of them will be pregnant.

Look at American history,it wasn’t founded on Catholic morality from the beginning but rather Christian morality(that is contributions from both protestant and catholic Christians). There was a 90 per cent literacy rate amongst the population at 1776 with most folks having learned to read from scripturally based primers or the number 1 early text book at the time, that is the Bible(which ironically the Catholics at the time weren’t encouraged to read).
You are right. And I am right too. Americans have drifted from Catholic morality. They have drifted from Protestant morality too.
