Ann Coulter Is Wrong About Latinos
FOX NEWS ^ | 07/10/2013 | By Michelle Fields

Conservative pundit Ann Coulter has been one of the loudest critics of immigration reform, claiming it will give the Democratic Party more voters since Latinos are a lazy, liberal and government-dependent people.

While there are many sound arguments to make against the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill, the basis of Coulter’s arguments focus on offensive stereotypes and her analysis of the potential political consequences of immigration reform is greatly exaggerated.

Many on the right have recommended that the GOP improve its messaging with Latinos and work on reforming our broken immigration system. Coulter, on the other hand, believes that Latinos aren’t worthwhile because they are “the bottom of the barrel” and that it’s impossible to “turn Mexico's underclass into Republicans.”

Not only are Coulter’s comments insulting, but it is also clear that she doesn’t know very much about the Latino community or immigration. First off, the idea that all undocumented immigrants are “Mexico’s underclass” is false. Latinos account for 80 percent of undocumented immigrants in America, and, obviously, not all of them are from Mexico. Also, no, Latinos aren’t a bunch of lazy people sitting around doing nothing. According to U.S. Census data, Hispanic entrepreneurs opened twice as many businesses as the national average in the 2000s.

Michelle Fields should stick to discussing education with Matt Damon, methinks.

Coulter, has lost significance as a conservative. She backed Romney over more conservative candidates.

Her Foot n’ Mouth disease isn't helping.

It’s okay for Ann Coulter to say that the Mexcans who are in the US illegally are demographically not likely to support our constitutional and conservative values. Coulter’s smart....I’l sure she didn’t say or imply that all Mexicans in the US fit that stereotype. Talking about a demographic does not mean that the speaker is talking about all of its members unless the word “all” is used.

the basis of Coulter’s arguments focus on offensive stereotypes

Stereotypes exist for a reason.

They are nothing more than a shorcut - a way to boil some human trait or characteristic down to its essence and describe it in simple terms.

Most stereotypes are founded on observed fact and turn out to be true, or mostly true.

A stereotype may be offensive to some but then the same can be said of the unvarnished truth.

Latinos account for 80 percent of undocumented immigrants in America, and, obviously, not all of them are from Mexico.

That's right, only about 80% of the 80%. Which pretty much squares with the polling data that maybe 30% of them are potential GOP voters, a price the Democrats are perfectly willing to pay to book their 70%.

And, yes, they are definitely more entrepreneurial than the native population. So are Russian immigrants and almost anybody else who comes here from a third world sh*thole. It is a skill you must learn to survive there: how to make untaxed cash under the table so that it escapes the bite of the corrupt political rulers.

It seems like Ms Fields uses scant quotes from Ann, and a lot of her own fill for the story...

Hey, Michelle, why should she think any differently? We don’t need people who are here illegally. Why is that so hard to understand?

40% of illegals are people who have overstayed their visas, not the Latino people in the shadows. I’m wondering what percentage of illegals entering the country today are Latino?

My historical experience with Latinos is they are some of the hardest workers I’ve seen. And they are willing to often do jobs that others won’t like asbestos/lead abatement, trash pickup and labor intensive landscaping/hardscaping. I’m not sure about their commitment to education and l won’t comment on their entrepreneurial spirit because I have no reference point, but they are hard workers. Does that make them GOP recruits I don’t know, because the Republican message is often muddled and when it isn’t it is seldom honestly reported.

I agree with Ann. We have to teach “latino” children in Spanish because they are illiterate in their own language. They have to learn to read in Spanish before they can even learn English. That’s why so many line up as day laborers. There aren’t many jobs around that can be done by illiterates who cannot speak English.

I don't want illegals - people who broke the law to get here - as my neighbors. I don't care if they're hard working or not - they broke the law to get here, they'll break other laws while they're here.

If we must take in 11 million more people, send the illegals HOME and take in an equal number from those who tried to come here legally.

Stereotypes exist for a reason.
Yes, they are the wisdom of the people.

Pass this traitorous bill and watch the US become a real banana republic. The Rats want as many reliable voters that match the profile of black America as possible. They want them to either be dependent on government handouts or employees of government or some sort of quasi government entity. The Radiclibs just want as many people here as possible who have no connection with the history and traditions of the United States and who come from countries with no tradition of liberty or freedom. Part of the reason for this is to create a majority that wants to be rid of a constitutional order that enshrines property rights and restricts the scope of government action, as important to these traitors is a desire to fill the US with potential recruits for street mobs and gang like ethnic groups to terrorize and attack middle class white Americans. One group very interested in this bill and very quiet are the Arabs. If it passes watch the number of Middle Eastern and Pakistani immigrants mushroom. This along with eventually ending the anti-polygamy laws is their opportunity to make the US at least 5% Muslim. Pass this bill and watch your country turn into the kind of sewer Visalia California has turned into in the last 20 years.

Latinos are not of one ethnic group; but many & varied. There are those who fit the stereotype being denounced, here. There are also many who do not.

None of this is really relevant. We no longer have an open frontier; no longer the uncrowded condition of years past. Frankly, we long since passed the ideal population in terms of numbers.

The interests that should be preserved are those of the rooted population. Bringing in large numbers from lands with very different cultures--even if we did not have large chronic unemployment & under-employment, would make no sense.

Thomas Jefferson was certainly not hostile to our Southern neighbors, but he understood that their ways were not America's ways. Thus he purchased Louisiana as a buffer (see Immigration & The American Future). Mexican culture, politics & behavior is not what we want here--and make no mistake, people create their culture, not the other way around. It is no mystery what is happening to California.

By all means, let us treat our Southern neighbors with respect. That does not mean that we want to morph into some form of chaotic amalgam with them.

This is the sort of activity that will become normative in a short time if the ‘path to food stamps’ bill is enacted:

The Sanford police department is enlisting black pastors to act as “observers” in the courtroom in exchange for promising to tell their congregations not to riot if the justice system does its job.

Race riots in Sanford are highly unlikely even if Al Sharpton manages to take a break from misreading the MSNBC teleprompter. As much as liberal activists have tried to make over Trayvon Martin into the new Rodney King, Sanford isn’t Los Angeles.

But the power of the race riot, like terrorism, lies in the threat. The man who threatens a race riot is blackmailing governments and private citizens to do his bidding. The Sanford race riot stories exist to persuade jurors to save lives and avoid further violence by convicting George Zimmerman.

Ever since a local crime story went national when motivated liberal activists decided to pluck it out of the back pages and transform it into their latest teachable moment on the ubiquity of American racism, Sanford has been getting a lot of help dealing with a racial crisis that it doesn’t have.

The Justice Department, which under Eric Holder has become indistinguishable from a radical community organizing group, began interfering in the case from the start.

Last spring it sent in its secretive Community Relations Service, all but indistinguishable from a group of community organizers, to train protesters and provide liaison services for them. The so-called “Peacemakers” wear the blue windbreakers, polo shirts and dark sunglasses of Federal agents, but claim to be the “eyes and ears of the community.” Eyes and ears, but not mouths. The CRS organizers were ordered not to talk to the media about what they were doing.

While Obama has refused to allow the soldiers shot in the Fort Hood Massacre to receive medals out of concern that it might “prejudice” the case against Nidal Hasan, the Muslim terrorist who opened fire on them, he had no such hesitation when it came to calling for an investigation that would leave no stone unturned in the ruthless pursuit of George Zimmerman.

Want to become a hated and persecuted minority in your own country let the rats flood the US with third world immigrants.

In truth I have come to the point where I do not care if Hispanics are insulted, are stereotyped or are in anyway “uncomfortable with anything they read see, or hear. I wish they would have the decency to leave OUR country forthwith. Further I wish the American people could once again obtain that feeling of exclusivity sufficient to hurl them out if they fail to leave voluntarily!
