As the trial of George Zimmerman for the murder of Trayvon Martin resumes on Monday, a CNN panel previewed what is expected to be the testimony of former Det. Chris Serino. Serino interrogated Zimmerman on the night of the murder and is expected to be a key witness for the prosecution. The CNN guests and anchor ntoed that his testimony could reverse the trajectory of this trial.
CNN anchor Carol Costello asked HLN contributor Jason Johnson about the suspicious circumstances surrounding Serinos recent reassignment and suggested that it may have had something to do with the fact that the former homicide detective was an advocate for the arrest and charging of Zimmerman early on in the investigation.
They played a clip of the recording of Zimmermans interrogation in which Serino berated the suspect over his shooting of an unarmed minor.
Criminal defense attorney Page Pate told Costello that Serinos testimony would help illuminate whether Zimmerman was acting lawfully when he engaged in a fight with Martin.
If he initiated the fight if hes in there throwing punches just because Trayvon throws a few himself and may even be winning at some point, does not give Zimmerman the right to take out a gun and shoot him, Pate said.
But how can you possibly figure out who threw the first punch? Costello asked.
Thats where Rachel Jeantel comes in, Johnson said. When she claims that she hears the phone drop.
Zimmerman had a gun in the chamber, he continued....

I wish people who don't know anything about a subject wouldn't act like they're an expert, don't you?
I sometimes keep a gun in my chamber, too....
All your chambers are belong to us.
I’m wondering if that would be a chamber pot....that is the only thing that could contain this ridiculous piece of crap from a useless attorney
Yeah, put the hungie hungie hippo back on the stand. She’ll say anything she want. That’ll help.
I understand Zimmerman used a Kel-Tec PF9 9mm. It doesn't have an external safety. Strike two. What a couple of ignorant jackasses.
“If he initiated the fight if hes in there throwing punches just because Trayvon throws a few himself and may even be winning at some point, does not give Zimmerman the right to take out a gun and shoot him, Pate said. “
Doesn’t really matter who initiated a fight. A fight by itself is not cause for use of deadly force.
However once one person threatens the life of the other then deadly force can be used.
Sound like they’re more interested in a certain outcome than actually finding out the truth !?!?!?
Yep. DAO.
Whole point of this coverage is to feed anger among Holder’s people in order to encourage the rioting that will occur after acquittal.
Is this from some comedy channel?
Let's say a Cop was on the receiving end of an ass whooping. Would there be any question if he shot the perp that it was self defense?
These talking heads no jack s*** about it, obviously. Serino looked every bit like a defense witness, practically testifying that in his opinion GZ is innocent.
The testimony itself has shown that the Prosecution actually has no witnesses. It puts up what should be Defense witnesses and asks them very limited questions. It is obvious that Prosecution knows that its case is bogus and is trying to make the best of a politically required trial. I cannot imagine a jury not composed entirely of activist blacks convicting, unless the jury is entirely liberal women who believe in Mommy justice or Social Justice.
Cross examination will show him to be largely unschooled on firearms. You don’t have a “gun in the chamber” and the Keltec 9mm doesn’t have a safety.
Agreed. Serino inferred that he was pressured from external forces to find something to charge Zimmerman with. Even admitted he used bluffing tactics that he ordinarily wouldn’t have because he was rushed and had nothing. In the end, Serino will become a highly paid contributor to one of the news channels.
Like an Obama election, I think the guilty fix is in and it doesn’t matter how much the prosecution wittlessnesses mess things up.
Ending the day with the "Thank God" comment when told about a video of the event was perfect. I'm sure it will be the opening words on Monday.
The jurors can ponder that all weekend.
But I'm angry. Why is this man on trial??
