In the maps of old, when an area was unexplored and presumed dangerous, a mapmaker might pen the phrase "Here Be Dragons". This warned the explorer that possessed the map that the area had not been tamed, or often, even explored, and that there were uncharted dangers in that area.
The Supreme Court of the United States has struck the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) down. While individuals may have feelings one way or another about this decision, what should trouble everyone on both sides is the report that the majority of the Court has called the minority "enemies of the human race."
This is the most henious, troubling verbiage we have ever seen emenate from the Supreme Court. It smacks of dehumanization of the opposition. When any tyranny wants to eliminate or exterminate the opposition, it must start by dehumanizing them. So if a group of people who hold a given ideology are "enemies of the human race", then they clearly -- in the eyes of the people who so declare -- are not human. An enemy of the human race cannot BE human.
When the dehumanization of your opposition has penetrated your soul, you become capable of any act of violence, any act of oppression. History is riddled with examples of this sort of speech. What invariably follows are pograms and mass-executions, tortures and oppressions, and denials of basic liberties. That our very highest Court has engaged in this sort of verbal assault should make everyone -- regardless of their political persuasion -- quite alarmed.
We do not want to travel into this uncharted area. America has had its' flirtations with depredation of an entire race, nationality, or ideology... but never have we engaged in wholesale slaughter, and we have great regrets for the times we have oppressed an entire class of people. We should not want to embark on another oppression.
We are a divided nation, this much is certain. However, for either side to start speaking of the other as "enemies of the human race" starts us down a path to tyrannical terror and bloodshed of a Biblical scale. I recommend our side, conservatives, not engage in this sort of behavior, and I would ask that our opposition do the same.
Otherwise, as our forebearers once wrote: "Here Be Dragons".
I agree. Zeneta has good thoughts, if he or she can work their craft in writing, they would be an excellent editorialist. We need more quality writers here at Free Republic, posting their efforts in the Freeper Editorial section. I would love to see this place, while it remains the premiere news-aggregate site in America, also develop a reputation as a place for quality editorial. RedState this place! :)
You have succintly captured some of the many problems we face in America, today. Thanks.
I don’t know that it was succinct in any way, but there be dragons here.
I have seen fully 35% of white folks resign themselves to believing that George Zimmerman will be hung.
They dare not defend what is obviously dependable.
defendable

He certainly can; but I’m expecting that in this case He’s going to let nature take its course.
Agreed......
It is a good thing! To NOT be counted as one of the damned.
Great point ... and agreement.
>>Except maybe for some really hot lebesians.<<
They don’t exist outside the pages of Penthouse Letters and the like.
In reality, most dykes are so ugly there aren’t beer goggles strong enough to get them laid.
