MOSCOW Russia's foreign minister has rejected U.S. demands to extradite National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden, who has apparently stopped in Moscow while trying to evade U.S. justice.
Sergey Lavrov said that Snowden hasn't crossed the Russian border and insisted that Russia has nothing to do with him, his relations with U.S. justice or his travel plans.
Speaking at a news conference Tuesday, he angrily lashed out at the U.S. demands for the extradition and warnings of negative consequences if Moscow fails to comply.
Lavrov said that accusing Russia of "violation of U.S. laws and even some sort of conspiracy" with regard to Snowden is "absolutely ungrounded and unacceptable."

Edward Snowden's stop-and-start flight across the globe appeared to stall in Moscow as the United States ratcheted up pressure to hand over the National Security Agency leaker who had seemed on his way to Ecuador to seek asylum.
In Ecuador's most extensive statement about the case, the foreign minister hailed Snowden on Monday as "a man attempting to bring light and transparency to facts that affect everyone's fundamental liberties."
The decision whether to grant Snowden the asylum he has requested is a choice between "betraying the citizens of the world or betraying certain powerful elites in a specific country," Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino told reporters while visiting Vietnam.

A partial answer is that a lot of people here are not at all Conservative and they like big government just fine. A little intrusion from the NSA is OK with such folks.
Snowden was posted to Switzerland by the CIA as a technical specialist six years ago. He said he became disillusioned by some of the tactics the CIA used to acquire agents. Snowden: Much of what I saw in Geneva really disillusioned me about how my government functions and what its impact is in the world. I realized that I was part of something that was doing far more harm than good. I think it's possible Snowden was recruited by the Russians while in Geneva and has worked for them ever since. Putin may have orchestrated Snowdens public disclosures to embarrass Obama a few days before Obama met with the Chinese to complain about cyber attacks.
I don’t know if Putin celebrates Christmas but what a gift he got when Mr. Snowden came to town.
I'm no fan of George Soros, but short-sellers are the messengers; they don't write the message. The Russian financial system (exemplified by the market for its government bonds) was in free-fall, with or without Soros.
I’ve been complaining for a couple of years here how thoroughly FR has been infiltrated.
I sneered at AC a couple of weeks ago for no longer being Conservative and got yelled down to by a leftist freak and told I was in the basement of mom’s house (like many of us referred to OWS vermin).
The left wing freaks embedded here try extra hard to APPEAR conservative....
Calling Snowden a traitor seems to out themselves pretty well, like the persistent ZIMMERMAN IS GUILTY freaks did last year.
I know there were a few who recanted, but many just got quiet until the next issue about which they just couldn’t contain themselves any longer.
I think we’re jumping to the conclusion that Russia is treating this kid to a spa package and five star dining.
Seriously, if this kid knows as much as he claims to, why would Russia let him just waltz off to Ecuador without first... um... debriefing him for as long as they want?
Exactly. I know Christian missionaries who travel to Russia frequently and they are puzzled at how much different it is there now than what is portrayed in our filtered media.
Most of the countries that we used to call commie and socialist think our country is full of idiots for letting their old history repeat itself in our country.
Flippin' socialized medicine..the takeover of our major corporations by the government. Come on people!
like we would hand over if it were one of their guys and why should they when Snowden will be locked away for ever because he ratted out how Obama and the thugs are spying on us all
exactly, Russian wanted Soros but he;s the left sugar daddy and so we are stuck with him but then the Chicago thugs get their panties in a twist when Russia does it back .
Snowden is being used as an example of never ratting out this Govt and their illegal spying and no one can say secret courts, with secret judges who only hear the govt side is surely legal
Russia.
give us Soros and then we’lL talk but you better knock it off wit your pathetic threats.
Like what would the Chicago regime do? Send a regiment of homosexuals to fight, ARF
Pelosi came out against Snowden. Now there is agreement between the GOP-e and the commies, out in the real light of day. Amazing.
MOVE ON and other groups pay their trolls to come here and get their digs in.
it’s the NAZI way, and yes I;ve met a couple of them who seem to be quick to defend homosexuals, cross dressers, call this guy a traitor and repeat the lefts talking points
I remember when this first broke and the GOP were silent but as the day progressed I saw more and more of the GOP get to the camera and shout traitor, high school drop out.
To the elitist ruling country boys and gals this is all a game who like to protect their power and wealth
This is what happens when people get lazy about their freedom, the crooks and "entitled" find their way to the top one way or another. It is human nature at it's worst just repeating. We let our guard down in just over 200 years. It just makes me sick...
It used to bother me as well, but I've come to accept it as inevitable. In fact, it's not like we weren't warned that the republic was a short term project if not properly maintained.
In retrospect, the idea that a piece of paper would preserve essential liberties just because it says so is absurd. Now, we are going to have to pay the bill for our collective sloth.
It was only meant to keep moral people in check...just like the lock on your door. When history is reviewed, it will find that demoralization was the fire that destroyed our freedom...again.
I find it hard to believe that the Russians and Chinese have not forced Snowden to let them copy the contents of all flash drives and laptops he is carrying. Supposedly he carries 4 laptops.
So I would think by now the Russians and Chinese have a treasure trove of NSA secrets which is ironic because the NSA is so active and obsessed with gathering the secret electronic communications of Americans and other data.

According to a 2012 report, more than 4 million people have security clearances at some level, while 1.4 million including 483,000 government contractors like Snowden have top secret security clearance.
Soros also almost destroyed the economies of Malaysia and Thailand. The U.S. is just his latest toy. He will do the same to us when he gets bored of playing with us. He can literally destroy entire nations and the lives of millions of people.
