HONG KONG — The Hong Kong government announced on Sunday afternoon that it had allowed the departure from its territory of Edward J. Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor who has acknowledged disclosing classified documents about United States government surveillance of Internet and telephone communications around the world. snip

The Aeroflot agent said that Mr. Snowden is traveling with one other person, with the surname Harrison, but the agent declined to release the other traveler’s first name, saying that she did not have the authorization to do so. The closest adviser to Julian Assange, who orchestrated the release of the Wikileaks diplomatic cables three years ago, is named Sarah Harrison, prompting speculation that she was the Harrison on the flight with Mr. Snowden.

Whether he released the information out of (misguided) patriotism or treason, right now he is neither a patriot nor a traitor, he is a desperate rat looking for a better corner.

I have been saying that Putin was invested in this deal since the beginning.

It feels odd to say it - but Russia is a potential center of resistance to a USG-led world socialist state, which on the whole is a good thing.

I am not jaded nor am I 60. Not yet.
I am trying to look at this pragmaticley.
Again I ask what is he telling
these countries. This is really a national
security issue with me. Is this man
a loose cannon? I don’t know, maybe.

I heard he had a list of agents on him.
Doesn’t that concern you?
It seems to me that some people
just want to take joy in tweaking
this administrations nose.

Concern? No.
Terrify? Yes.

I heard he eats babies.
Doesn’t that concern you?

Just out of curiosity, would someone monitoring my, your and every loyal American's ordinary communications discover the names of ANY agents this way?

If he is trying to hide, why is wikileaks releasing press releases on his travel plans? Snowden is not in control..Assange is...

Come on. I am just stating my
concerns. I am not saying you
are wrong. Not at all. You have
made good points. I am just asking
questions that’s all. I am not
ready to jump on the hero/patriot
bandwagon that’s all.

MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - Without a visa Snowden will not be able to leave the Sheremetyevo airport , where he arrived from Hong Kong, an airport source told Interfax.

“Snowden cannot be taken out of the airport even in a diplomatic car since he has neither an ordinary, nor a diplomatic visa,” he said.

Ecuadoran diplomats whose car was seen at the airport, could have arrived either for talks with Snowden, or for a meeting with WikiLeaks lawyers, who have visas, he said.

This may be the norm, but lets not exclude the possibility that the governments involved have initiated exceptions through diplomatic negotiations.

As I’ve stated before on this forum, during my 33 years with the Agency, i had never seen one instance of US Persons being targeted WITHOUT a warrant. I’ve never seen one instance of US Persons being targeted WITH a warrant. Those of us who spent our careers out on the tip of the spear are a very close-knit community. If such treachery had been afoot, we would’ve known. Rather, we were continually reminded of our responsibilities under EO 12333. If my Agency ever did this, it was without my knowledge or approval.

I suspect there was no way the administration could have prepared that request properly such that Hong Kong would heed it. No matter what, SOMETHING was going to be wrong and for that reason, Hong Kong was not going to comply

I totally agree with you.

Our country has already decided we are its enemies. Bad for us in the short term, REALLY bad for them long term.

Oh I certainly agree with that...and I would not be surprised if the USA back-channels aren't involved as possible.

I say this because they could have easily nabbed him in China...by using simply ‘theft’ rather than Espionage charges. The Espionage Verbiage gave China the loop-hole they needed. It's all Geopolitics now....
