A day before the first set of school closings was set to begin, Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis had some harsh words about how the Chicago Public Schools are funded and managed, blaming much of the district’s problems on racism. How much are they already spending per kid in the Chicago school system?

If folks in Chicago were really interested and serious about getting the most bang for their buck they need only to visit their own local success story.

Years ago, educator Marva Collins was getting a lot of positive press on her success with educating inner-city children.

She did it without taxes, without unions, without "Whitey" and without failure. She spent a lot of hands-on time with her students to get them reading.

Thus, vocabulary, spelling and knowledge skills jumped and the students could speak and write in complete sentences.

Any one from Chicago or the educational field have an update or comment?
