THE TRUTH ABOUT NSA SPYING: They Still Have Your Internet Data And Tech Giants Know It

Michael Kelley
Jun. 7, 2013, 9:00 AM

The Washington Post has backtracked on its claim that nine major tech firms 'participate knowingly' in the National Security Agency's domestic surveillance program, Jon Russell of The Next Web reports.

But that doesn't mean that the dragnet snooping didn't happen, or that the tech heavyweights didn't know about it.

On Thursday The Post and The Guardian reported on leaked NSA powerpoint slides that detail an eavesdropping program — dubbed PRISM — based on "legally-compelled collection" of extracting reams of data from Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, YouTube, Skype, AOL and Apple with the "assistance of communications providers in the US."

The Post article now suggests the firms were unaware of PRISM after Apple, Facebook, Microsoft and Google denied involvement, and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper declassified information about the program to address "inaccuracies."

From Russell:

... the paper’s new stance is a huge admission. For one thing, it adds to the growing claim that the agency instead accessed the information indirectly. In such a case, the most likely method would be via ISPs or mobile operators, but that remains unconfirmed.

Actually, according to investigative reporting and whistleblower testimony, it's pretty clear that the NSA has bugged every major ISP and mobile provider.

Didn’t know?

Then explain why most of their execs are currently attending a Bilderberger meeting where the topic of discussion is, supposedly, ‘How big data is changing everything’?

Every company does back-ups every night and stored off site, they have years and years of data - wonder how much carbonite gave them.

Both Yahoo and Microsoft have been working with the snoops, legally compelled or not. Microsoft is a jihadist hive, and Yahoo?

Remember “You Got Jail”?

And people laugh at me for doing my own backups to an encrypted NAS and tapes.

Notice how the government hasn’t bitched about anyone using encryption in at least a decade?

It’s because they’ve cracked it.

The dog that didn’t bark, etc.

Stensenberger (sp) was just on FOX. He wrote the Patriot bill. Is extremely upset. Said he struggled with both Bush and Obama to keep this from happening. The judge was suppose to be the check. He’s working to amend bill immediately , not waiting till 2015

Shouldn’t we assume that every communication going out over the airwaves is scrutinized at some point?

This is why I don’t do social media, picture sites or cloud backup. I never trusted them. Sadly, I am now validated with respect to my paranoia. I don’t sign online petitions; I don’t have an email address with my name in it and I have multiple variations to use for different situations. I even have my telephone listed under an assumed name. When I get a call from someone asking for that name, I know the call is bs.

God help us. Only He can.

NSA Theme Song?

Sting

"Every Breath You Take"

Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you

Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you

What are peoples opinion about the iCloud or offline backup services?
Is it secure at all or should I just go ahead rent my offline storage and backup from NSA directly?

As for cellphones and wireless handsets, we should probably simply assume someone is recording every bit we transmit or receive.
You don't really need the cooperation of cell phone companies to do that.
They may not have people to go through it all but massive data crunching computers can certainly look for patterns and raise flags.

I saw Sensenbrenner on FoxNews this morning.

==

Everyone in Washington (and Cincinnati, and elsewhere) is playing Sgt. Schultz, while they are feigning indignation.

==

Rep. Sensenbrenner, how long have YOU known about these abuses by the government?

I don't believe ANY of them any more.

There are numerous stories in the media as of late of people refusing to decrypt a data cache. The big-F Federal government might have the capacity to crack encryption algorithms, but they’re not going to use them to help local law enforcement prosecute a child pornographer.

True enough. I was talking the feds.

The feds are probably just collecting all that child porn.
