On May 4, the town of Beverly, Massachusetts threw a huge parade and concert for 19-year-old American Idol contestant Angie Miller, who made the top three in the competition. Its a great chance to show off our fair city, Mayor Bill Scanlon said. The city spent $31,200 on security, cleanup and other costs associated with the events, he said.
So it must have looked like an odd contrast in American values when the town of Beverly, Massachusetts then canceled its parade for Memorial Day 23 days later, a tradition for more than 100 years. Thousands turned out for the pop star, but few turn out for the heroic fallen:

this is the state that gave us the UMASS Amherst professor who said 12 hours before 9/11 that the US Flag was a symbol of terrorism, too
LOL - and appropriate (but scary).
Why would you blame her? I am sure she had no idea when she flew in for the day thatcher down was going to cancel Memoeial Day. It is the sign of our times.
Why is everyone blaming her for the City Council’s stupidity.
Massachusetts is not America. Massachusetts is Neo Europa.
The state must be purged from the Union
That’s my point . It’s Massachusetts.
What else can be expected?
If she had known on May 4 that they were going to cancel the Memorial Day parade three weeks later, then she would have more than sense, she'd be psychic. Good grief. Not her fault.
American Idol is getting film for prime time from this staged event. I’m shocked that they don’t pay the expenses to the cities and towns for these contrived events.
Here’s an idea: Make Pop Singer what’s-her-name Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade.
Too late?
AI does to Ameria what it does to cows....
The veterans in Beverly, MA must be thrilled to know of the sacrifice that their American Idol finalist made to preserve their freedom.
/disgusted sarc
I’ll bet if they threw a parade for the Free Sh!T Army they would have lots of people marching!
Sing song contests are really important..
watch the easily entertained gawk at those making sounds....
Fans...Short for fanatics...stare and stand in disbelief as if the person making the sounds is really doing something...Besides making sounds...

If the residents turn out in great numbers for one and not the other, it says more about the residents than anything else.
Can’t really blame the city officials too much if the residents care more about a two bit singer than their veterans.
Yes, some do give their life. You’re right. I do want to put it out there that just the risk is better than some kid trying to win a television show.
I think most people understand those that have given their life are certainly more deserving.
Those that don’t haven’t got the brain cells necessary to come up with a proper judgement. Our men die for them too.
