A man who forced his way into a Union County home early Thursday was shot and killed by an occupant of the residence, according to the sheriffs office.
Calling the case a home invasion, detectives say the intruder tried to escape after being shot but never made it past the front yard of the house.
The incident happened shortly before 1 a.m. at a home in the 3400 block of Lanesboro Road, off Ansonville Road. That is north of Marshville, in the northeastern part of Union County.
Capt. Ronnie Whitaker says someone inside the home called 911 and said an intruder, wearing a mask and pointing a gun, had forced his way into the residence. An occupant was able to get to a loaded gun and fire a shot at the man, Whitaker says.
The man then fled, but deputies responding to the call found the alleged intruders body in front of the house, which sits about 200 feet off the road in a rural area.

Don’t try this in Canada, just curl up in a ball and be a good little victim. Freedom at it’s best.
Whew, I thought for a second that a “union” invaded a home and one of the members wash killed or a “union house” was invaded and one of the intruders killed. Writing is more harder than summing.

Got one about a foot from my hand, 24/7.
I wonder where the intruder’s soul is now and if it regrets breaking in that house
As a guy who leaves the door open most of the time, and open all night about 3 times a week, because I forget to shut it when I go to bed, I wonder about these stories.
The guy whose family I bought this from was murdered when someone unknown broke in and killed him, but not his girlfriend who rolled up in a ball in the corner, I guess that is a home invasion.
Defending Your Home is racist, sexist, and homophobic.
It may be racist but it’s good for the gene pool.
best story ending i read all day. just think what a good deed this citizen did for his county. one less armed burglar to terrorize the community, and the court system has one less case, the hospital has more resources for law abiding people, and one less criminal in prison to pay for. one less armed criminal who can never steal, murder, rape, and prey on good people ever again.
fantastic.
Same with me. I just hope they are smart enough to get out when they hear me load one in the chamber. I’m not interested in having to mop up blood.
Good question. I have to think he has had a thorough review of the incident.
Ewwww...you live in a house where someone was killed? Ever hear any unexplained noises?
No, I have always been a believer in God, even as a child I wasn’t afraid to sneak through the huge cemetery at night, I don’t play those games.
We bought a foreclosed house on an acre in a good area for a great price. The previous a-hole owner used to live here but moved and rented it out to various section 8 people, just to tick off his former neighbors. The house stunk like a kennel due to one room they used as — a kennel! Dog and cat crap all over.
Anyway, for several years we worried about unwanted visitors in the middle of the night, since some of the former residents were in the amateur pharmaceutical business. A number of years in and we have had no problems.
First line of defense is our dog alarm that can hear a flea fart a quarter mile away during a thunderstorm. Second line of defense? Thanks for asking. Details not currently available.
One in my pocket now. Ruger LCP .380 nestles into the watch pocket of my jeans perfectly - deep enough to stay and exposed enough for the grip to be handy. Also hides nicely under my un-tucked t-shirt when out and about.
Once July hits, us Mississippi folks won't have so much to worry about as far as staying "properly concealed".
Keep a gun in your home because: When seconds count the police are only minutes away.
Do you need a hunting license to shoot feral people?
Obama’s son or Holder’s people? OK, sorry. That’s probably racist.
