Rather than the presence of uniformed soldiers being treated as a preventive against jihadist violence, it is now understood to be a provocation.
This is what happens to a state that is UNDER OCCUPATION. The jihadists can wear their "uniforms" without any prohibition - full Shariah compliant physical appearance, and socially enforced hijabs for the women - and can impose their force without sanction against their community at large. But the occupied state's domestic police and military are now even more limited in what they can do.
I totally agree that this is akin to being under occupation. Maybe non-Muslims should avoid going outside of their homes.

In 1982 a West German colonel told me he wore civvies while driving to the local Bundeswehr base & then changed into his uniform. Greens & other radicals would hurl rocks at his car otherwise.

This is ridiculous. In addition, the soldier who was killed wasn’t even wearing a uniform.
The Muslims were hanging around near the gate waiting for someone to come out, and he walked out wearing the equivalent of a “Wounded Warriors” tee shirt (no uniform) and they attacked him and cut his head off while the rest of the Brits stood by watching.
Well, no, a group of women did try to help him. But the men present didn’t intervene and in fact obligingly took photos of the killers at the request of the latter, nobody came out from the armory, it took the police 20 minutes to get there...heck, why not just hand the country over the Muslims right now?
