There's poop in public pools, according to a new report.
Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found genetic material from E. coli bacteria in 58 percent of public pools they tested during the summer of 2012.
This shows that "swimmers frequently introduced fecal material into pools," which could spread germs to other people, the researchers wrote in their report. E. coli bacteria are normally found in the human gut and feces.
They also found genetic material from bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa, whichcan cause skin rashes and ear infections, in 59 percent of pools.
The fecal material in pools comes from swimmers not showering before getting into the water, and from incidents of defecation in pools, according to the report. The average person has 0.14 grams of fecal material on their "perianal surface" that can rinse into a pool if a person doesn't shower first, according to the report

You weren’t the only one saying they don’t swim in public pools. And I know agermophobe who doesn’t let her children use handrails in public. Not surprised I missed your intent.
Thanks for the additional comments and link. Interesting...
I’ve hiked that ground. Probably no more beautiful place on earth.
“don’t pee in my pool and i will not swim in your toilet!”
***Brings back memories of swimming in cattle ponds in Central Florida.***
Back when I was young, on a very hot day I would often drink out of a green slimy cow pond.
I haven’t yet been so thirsty I would drink out of a cow track, yet.
Mmmnn, flavorful! Where I grew up there was a nearby hill a few blocks away, and oftentimes when the grass was bone dry there would be a fire. Firemen would often pick mint growing alongside the path and chew on it. We snickered because dogs peed alongside the path. But we also ate berries and mint on that hill and didn't care what was on it. Being a carefree kid was fun. Grownups worry too much.
Poopy pool was about how the media would resort to reporting on ANYTHING rather than the latest developments on the clinton scandals.
Many may have bought into the "just about sex" mantra but during those days we had Loral winning clearance (after donating $ to clinton) to launch rockets in China. When the rocket crashed, the guidance chip was "lost". Soon after China was able to develop more accurate ICBM technology. It was the basis for the China Treason accusations. Clinton took money from the daughter of a chinese general, a chinese spy, and from chinese companies tied to their military.
The media spent so much time with their poopy pool reporting that we old timers created a Poopy Pool thread to make fun of them. It went over 20 pages and was hilarious. The original was lost but some still remember the fun we had on that thread.
Here is a mention of the thread in 2009:

Yesterday I was trying to make a point about how the media gives BS stories more air-time than real news. I asked the question: "Well what choice will the media make today: 1. Semen stained dress confirmed(NY Observer) 2. Missing chip fro m satellite confirmed (New York Times) 3. Whorealdo turning his back on the arrest of a Chinese guy (PSNBC) 4. Kids in pool get sick from poopy. MY GUESS IS THAT #4 will get the most play." This post got replies such as: And let's not forget about Dan Rat her's special report on how Republicans in Congress are failing to protect "the children" from pool poopy. Followed by the cost of Ken Starr's investigation draining funds from the "pool poopy crisis" "Did Ken Starr do legal work for the 'Big Pool Poopy' industry?" Next! On Whoraldo! "follow-up interviews with the people holding a candle-light vigil at the site of the 'poopy pool tragedy'....a fence in the background will be bedecked with flowers and crudely rendered posters...and the interviewees will, of course, speak in vo...

I appreciate the history.
Thanks.
I lived for a couple of years in Montrose. Hiked Dallas Divide and skiied Telluride many times. And a few years ago, drove over Imogene Pass from Ouray to Telluride. I’ve spent a lot of time around Uncompahgre.
Wow, no wonder Mom always asked if somebody farted after I returned from swimming!
DANG!
