About two years ago while at Fort Carson our company commander was required to give all the NCO's a brief on the repeal of DADT. He told us to hold all questions until he finished. Here is my memory of the questions (all asked by me of course):
Me: Did the Army take into effect the crime statistics showing that homosexuals has higher rates of domestic violence?
CO: I do not know.
Me: What about the disease statistics showing that homosexuals have higher rates of STD's?
CO: I don't know.
Me: You stated that barracks room assignments would NOT be based on a Soldier's sexual preference. Does this mean you will place homosexuals in rooms with straight Soldiers?
CO: Yes. But no male/female room assignments.
Me: So are you saying it is ok to discriminate for room assignments based on gender but not preference?
CO: No. We will not discriminate at all.
Me: If you won't discriminate then why would you not place gay male Soldiers in rooms with straight female Soldiers or gay females in rooms with straight males? To me that sounds like discrimination.
CO: SFC (name), I didn't write the policy I was just told to read this to everyone.
Me: Did whomever write this do any research or put any thought into it?
CO: I don't know.
Me: Well, then whomever wrote it is an idiot.
good on you!
Congratulations on your promotion.
Getting freedom of speech back is great, isn’t it?

Thank you for your service... and, thank you for your honesty in the face of the “idiocy”.
Bravo !
I pretty much spoke my mind anyway. At my rank the only way to demote me was by court martial and they were too lazy to go through the process. I could tell from many conversations with others that they agreed with me.
I carried two copies of the US Constitution with me every day so that I could reference to them what I was talking about regarding other stuff. I told all my Soldiers to read it because they can’t “support and defend” it if they don’t know what’s in it.
good for you.
I still have pals serving who are against it too. One soldier a few weeks ago got back from Afghanistan who said he saw his officer a couple of nights later after the repeal wearing a dress in the PX.
He said how could I give him respect after that and that was not the only issue he had.
he also said there is a case going on right now with homosexuals having sex and advances to straight normal men but the military is trying it’s best to keep it quiet over there.
People like Hannity said they supported the troops and yet when many of us vets tried to call him and tell him we oppose this and that the survey they sent out was bogus his screener and him refused to cover this issue like he refuses to cover any homosexual issues
LOL. I remember a similar exchange between myself and a One Star in regard to the War on Drugs. It raised a couple eyebrows. I was never meant to be a career officer anyway. We used to say, “Never trust anyone above the rank of Major”. I guess that was why I didn’t go any further.
I'd go one step lower, no to trust anyone above Captain.
(CPT/SFC, USArmy)
How’s that gonna work? What senior NCO trusts an 03? Other than you, of course.
The First Shirt trusts the CO, or things just don’t work.
I saw too many instances in company commands where either the CO was a martinet, or the NCOIC was a douche.
Besides, everyone knows you when you want something done, you talk the the E-4 who actually does the job.
Great questions, but if I were to go to the one making the decision, they are probably deaf, dumb and blind to truth because they don’t think truth exists anymore.
Because Vannity is worse than the shrill Coulter. It is all about making money not saving this republic.
I honestly think Hannity and Coulter are just as bad as each other.
if they cared about this country they would have spoken up not just about debt which is a safe option for them but also homosexual agenda, marriage, don’t ask, adoption, family, hell Baltimore dept of education is now saying they do not say mother and father and all forms have spouse one and two on it now./
All about their elitist pals, living in a cocktail party elitist world and money for them while us shmucks have to put up with their ignorance and left wing laws in our communities and neighborhoods
You made me laugh! Thank you.
When I was a 1LT, I referred to my E-4 clerk as my SPIC. Got a few interesting responses until I told them it meant "specialist in charge."
Hannity is a shill for the establishment GOP, nothing more.
Thank you for your service and willingness to say what most sane people were (are) thinking.
I had a Towed Vulcan platoon (late 70s) that had three "Acting Jack" squad leaders (Spec 4's). My other SL was an E-5. We were the only platoon in the battery to pass our ARTEP (Tac Eval).
The day before it started, I got them together and told them why, to a man, they were better than the other platoons. By then, I'd been through multiple evaluations as a Platoon Leader, and knew what the evaluators focused on. Piece of cake...
Depends on the O3. For example, when I was appointed Battalion S-4 (as an 1LT), my NCOs knew me from 2+ years in the battalion, 6 months filling in as the Bn Property Book Officer, and they learned my Bachelors Degree was in Public Accounting.
We worked well as a team, and we never took any crap from higher HQ. The "old man" had my back on that.
Trust and respect have to go in both directions for a unit to work.
I remember an ARTEP/tac eval where our 1st Sgt was new, but he had 26 years in the Army, 3 tours in Viet Nam, all in the infantry. He comes up to me, says "sir, I don't know jack about ADA." I said, "Top, you know how to run a company size CP, right? Let me worry about the ADA BS, and we'll be fine."
We were doing great, until the BC sent wrong coordinates to one of the platoons. The platoon leader didn't question them, even though his Vulcan platoon was given a 10KM long route defense (Vulcan's max effective range was 1KM). Almost cost us the whole thing.
