Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) aims to block any illegal immigrant from ever receiving any state, local, or federal welfare or public benefits with a series of amendments to the immigration reform bill currently under review in the U.S. Senate.
Cruz has filed five amendments to the bill. The one currently marked Cruz 2 on the Senate Judiciary Committee website (the amendments have not yet received official numbers) has a stated purpose to provide that aliens who have entered or remained present in the United States while not in lawful status shall not be eligible for means-tested benefits.
The amendment would insert language into the bill that specifically says no illegal immigrant who broke the law to enter or stay in the country shall be eligible for any Federal, State, or local government means-tested benefit, nor shall such alien be eligible for any benefit under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Pub. L. 111-148), regardless of the aliens legal status at the time of application for such benefit.
In short, without citizenship, even if Americas millions of illegal immigrants received temporary legalization or eventually green cards and permanent legalization, they could never be eligible for any public benefits or welfare, including Obamacare.

Let illegals stay in country, no welfare, no citizenship. Ted Cruz rocks This will out the true intentions of the Dem Party. It’s not letting illegals stay in the country. It’s to add to the welfare rolls and to have them vote Dem. Will love to hear the Dems whining and saying how mean this is. All they want is the Dem votes from illegals becoming citizens one day. The illegals are a means to an end. Dems could care less about illegals other than in how they can help stack the Dem Party with more Dem votes. Period.
I’m afraid I’d be even meaner than Ted. I want ‘em all sent back. I have ZERO sympathy for criminals and I consider every last one of ILLEGALS to be criminals. Sorry. I’m up to my eyeballs here with people with their hands out and who don’t even attempt to speak English.
Good thing! Make coming to the USA a hard thing—not a gravy train. No Free Junk! Heck, Mexico wouldn’t do it for American Citizens (and I am OK with that) We must look after our own.
AND, charge them for any “free” services: Public school, school lunches, etc.
YEAH!
I hope you don't mind but I'm going rustle Ted Cruz and claim him as my Senator. I'm stuck with Durbin and Kirk. Above all, thank everyone in Texas for sending him to the Senate.
“Giving illegal aliens welfare already violates a number of federal laws including those about giving aid to illegals.”
Don’t get me wrong, it’s GREAT that he’s proposing the amendment, because it MAKES PEOPLE THINK.
But it will get killed by the Dems, thanks to Akin.
But even if included, as you say, it would just be ignored. I remember reading of a dialogue with a state Welfare Director. They asked him whether Illegals get Welfare - he said “No, that’s not permitted”. They asked whether they check to make sure recipients are legal, he also said NO.
Please Freepmail me or reply here, if youd like to be added to the Texas state ping list.
This is a low volume ping list articles of high interest, importance, or needed activism only.
I agree with Ted Cruz. But there will be a problem makes for two classes of citizens legal and illegal. the liberals will claim this is discriminatory. As a conservative i say if you are illegal you get nothing. Welfare was designed as a temporary solution not a permament class of people either. I can well remember Wisconsin when than Governor Tommy Thompson implemented welfare reform - the costs went done. Here in Michigan Governor Synder signed into law that welfare has a limit of 4 years (48 months) than the recipient is cut off. the exemption is people whom receive social security disability (medicaid and food stamps)
That’s a good start. Anyone entering the country illegally should be permanently blocked from all welfare, from all paths to citizenship, and from all paths to legal status. Illegals should automatically be fingerprinted and photographed, and unless they file an immediate (30 day time limit) appeal of their classification as illegals should be permanently barred from any benefits or paths to benefits.
done = down opps
And if you think they won’t all be made citizens soon enough, you’re kidding yourself.
Counting chain migration 30 million will soon be 90 million and this country will be screwed from the voting both to bankruptcy.
Letting illegals stay and be legal is in no way, shape or form fair!
What many don’t know is that the American people favor welfare for illegals because the recipients are “in need”, and the American people don’t understand that it is with their own money that they are “being compassionate”. They think it’s someone else’s money underwriting the “compassion.” I don’t think they can understand.

But ...but ...but ...if you do this, then NO ONE will even bother to come here! Oh, wait ...
Should call it, “They Came To Work” Bill.
You did? OH WELL OKAY THEN...!
I’m completely sure there will be NO complaints.
I'm what liberals call "nasty and mean spirited". I think the wealth generated by those born here legally or who immigrate legally should belong to the individuals who generated that wealth. It should not be shared around to criminals and to those too lazy to work by deadbeats and parasites who think they are charitable because they generously give away other people's money.
Y’all should be proud. This man just continues to impress.
Go Cruz!
