The US Senate on Monday passed a bill aimed at ending tax-free shopping on the internet but the move looks set to face fierce opposition before it becomes law.

The Marketplace Fairness Act, which has cross-party supporter and the backing of powerful retailers, would give states the power to require retailers with sales over $1m to collect state and local sales taxes for online purchases.

The State of Tennessee should open up and swallow Alexswindler and Porker the next time either of them set foot back on her soil.

I’m surprised. The first roll count vote I saw showed him as a NV. OK, I’ll take it.

Thune was probably promised some really nice bacon for SD by his beltway pals if they got an internet sales tax. Must be nice being John Thune. The fact you "beat Tom Daschle" years ago entitles you to do whatever you want in the Senate and a bunch of gullible Republicans will still love you and give you a free pass for life.

Some shameless RINO-loving Kirkbots are the on the internet tonight saying we should get down on our knees and thank heavens that "fiscal conservative" Mark Kirk voted against it. Except they leave on the part about Kirk being FOR the internet sales tax, BEFORE he was against it. Kind of like a certain former Senator from Massachuttes:

[[Because in that decision the Supremes specifically said Congress was free to authorize interstate sales tax collection if they so desired]]

i was more talking about the health care ruling where basically John Robert’s claim is that the supreme court is NOT supposed to ‘protect peopel from bad choices’ and that if they don’t like their current choice, why then they could simply ‘vote them out i nnext election’ (Although irreversible damage will have been done and hte peopel are pwoerless to do anythign about it- AND the supreme court makes rulings ll the time that ‘protect the people from bad chocies’

John Roberts essentially gave the presidente unfettered power to do as he pleases by claimign it wasn’t the court’s job to protect hte peopel- ElPresidente swore up and down his healthcare law wasn’t a tax, yet suppsoedly it is unconstitutional to force anyone to purchase something agaisnt hteir will (when it comes down to it, you don’t HAVE to buy anything- or at least that’s how it was before the HC law- you didn’t need insurance for vehicles[you coudl simply choose not to drive] you didn’t have to have life insurance accident insuarance, etc etc etc- now all of a sudden the surpeme court decides it’s just a-ok for the gubmint ot FORCE peopel to purchase soemthign or else pay a fine

Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase ...

Ha. Ha. Any bill labeled as market place fairness will no doubt be the opposite of fair. That is standard mode of operation.

I don’t see the need for all this. Most areas have “use” taxes that people pay when they file their tax return anyway, so unless they invalidate those taxes, this will be redundant, with taxes applied twice for the same purchase.

THIS IS AN EFFING OUTRAGE!! Working people can’t even afford to get clothes or food thanks to taxes and cost of living.
This is just a double sales tax. SUCH BULLSHIT. I’m so sick of those corrupt lawyer bastards in Washington.

If you think that Popvox is a worthwhile effort I can sell you a bridge.....

Sorry, but the only way to get your voice to a congress is direct, signed mail with a postmark and address confirming that you are a constituent. Use a stamp.

Do not use a form letter.

Email is too easy for groups to spam.

( Hope Republicans in the House stop this
no more taxes

no more overreaching illegal federal government (when is enough enough for conservatives who vote rinos in?)

no more obamaregime unconstitutional liberty stealing tax raising communist federal and state laws

we needed to have repealed the 1965 immigration ACT back in 1994 when the pubs had the congress and executive branches but never did and never will as they are in cahoots with the communist democrats.

repeal Obamacare, a system set in place by the evil democrat politicians who deceive the ignorant and foolish citizens who believe them.

and keep repealing old decrepit laws that continue the evil communist run fed government growing as well as shut down all federal agencies created after 1900 A.D. and return the Constitutional rights of the states back to them so that the ignorant liberals can tax themselves to death in liberal states but not affect conservatives and capitalism in their states.

We need to return to the Lord God of Hosts and His righteousness so that we may once again have His blessings and salvation for those who believe how He died for our sins and rose again the third day and be the Christian influenced nation we were before the communist atheist democrat party and the union criminals destroyed our nation.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord Jesus, but sin is destroyer of all who hate Him.

The only answer I can think of is that Alabama has a pretty hefty sales tax, and local merchants and legislators are complaining to Sessions...

Still, even if I have to pay sales tax on an Amazon.com purchase (and I'm not saying I don't, as that is the law after all—or at least declaring it is the law), I'm likely to continue rather than go to a local merchant.

The convenience factor still applies. I live way out in the country, so even a trip to Super Walmart is an hour's worth of driving. What if they don't have what I'm looking for? What if it costs too much?

Wow. Just wow.

What is the point of taking over the Senate in 2014 — likely — with votes like this. )

Been saying for years that conservatives need to vote for a third party candidate or we will never be represented in the evil federal regime.

This all means that since the two bills don’t match there is nothing for ‘O’ to sign and our two chambers must resolve the bills and try again.

“Sorry, but the only way to get your voice to a congress is direct, signed mail with a postmark and address confirming that you are a constituent. Use a stamp.”

What makes you think that these AssHats in congress read or even open your letters? or do they go into the round file with my e-mails?

Good point about form letters and spam. Only way to overcome that is with a phone call or speaking out at a town hall meetings.

My point was that everyone must do something or the congress critters will say that no one has any objection to their actions. Not that they care what we think as long as we vote for them time after time.

If these asshats wanted to be ‘fair’ they’d allow the states to exercise a little intelligence for once and cancel ALL sales taxes. That would literally ‘level the playing field. (I loathe that phrase and here I use it.)

The more money that flows into any government: local, state and federal, the more money government spends to enlarge and grow it’s tentacle-type operations. They build small and large empires.

Deny them as much revenue as possible and shrink the ranks of their bloated bureaucracy.

In 2011, Congress voted to repeal the requirement buried in the Obamacare abomination that businesses, charities and state and local governments issue a 1099 to every vendor to which they had remitted $600 or more because it was a costly and onerous burden.

Congress Votes to Repeal 1099 Requirements

This internet sales tax is even worse, forcing on-line vendors to submit to sales tax collection and reporting for tens of thousands of jurisdictions.

Even if not one red cent is collected from some jurisdictions, sales tax reports must still be submitted to show zero collections.

What a complete nightmare this is going to be.
