FDA Says Morning-After Pill Must Be Available To Anyone Over 15
The Guardian ^ | April 30, 2013 | Staff

The morning-after pill is to be made available over the counter to anyone in the US aged 15 and over, authorities announced on Tuesday.

Days before a court-imposed deadline, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lowered the age limit for Plan B and said it that a prescription would no longer be required to buy it. Instead, the pill can sit on drugstore shelves just like condoms, but buyers will have to prove their age at the cash register.

Earlier this month, a federal judge ruled that Plan B should be sold without restriction and gave the FDA 30 days to act. The FDA said its latest decision was independent of the court case.

Scientists, government health agencies and groups including the American Medical Association, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Academy of Pediatrics have recommended unrestricted access to emergency contraceptives for years. The FDA said in a December 2011 memo that "there is adequate and reasonable, well-supported, and science-based evidence that Plan B One-Step is safe and effective and should be approved for nonprescription use for all females of child-bearing potential".

That recommendation, delivered as the campaign for the 2012 presidential election was getting under way, was overruled by the US secretary of health and human services, Kathleen Sebelius.

In a judgment last month, US federal district court judge Edward Korman described the restriction as "a strong showing of bad faith and improper political influence". He said the decision was "arbitrary, capricious, and unreasonable", and ruled Plan B should be made available without age restrictions.

The morning after pill is an abortifacient.

You’re the one needing an education.

Prescription or no prescription, how safe is the morning after pill?

The risk I believe is a risk of hemorrhaging to death if not addressed real fast. So nice for government to do this behind parents back. The Tyrants.

I just read the article. It did not say that the 14 year old murderer was married to the 15 year old inseminator.

Your argument that because a soulless 14 year old murdered her child is reason to allow more teenager girls to murder their unborn children is beyond stupid. Plus the pill wouldn’t have helped her, she’s under 15. Of course in reality that won’t matter, others will buy the pills for girls under 15.

You’ve been around here but you’ve not been around here. Go back to your tinker toys and leave this to adults.

Can I go buy some? Why? Why not?

Maybe we could all chip in and buy so many the market will not be available to little girls who want to kill their offspring. Be like “Big Cyst” and hog the market. Imagine of we had a network of pharmacists and consumers who purchased the product and destroyed it faster than it could be manufactured. At the same time seek out the manufacturers and do everything in our power legally to thwart production.

“Sorry, little girl. We’re sold out.”

Decisions over innocent life and death do not belong to the arbitrary ruminations of situation ethics. The manufacture and distribution of abortifacients is morally reprehensible.

To some it would be. To other, understandable. So for your edification, why deny this pill to those who can become pregnant at ages under fifteen? Then I pointed out a story where a girl who’s fourteen killed her baby. The argument is not about abortion as some previous poster couldn’t comprehend the written word in English, but about the availability of this pill. It is not a pro/con argument re: abortion. It’s an argument of priorities of age. Children as young as nine have become pregnant.

Not if you check its comments, sort of consistent.

So you’re saying children as young as nine who’ve gotten pregnant should also be able to use the morning after pill WHICH IS AN ABORTIFACIENT. GOT IT???

It prevents a fertilized egg from implanting in the womb. Kills it.

So your complaint with this pill is only that there is a cut off age? It should be available to the vast hosts of girls under 15 who get pregnant and want to kill the bany right quick before they’d have to get an abortion?

One of the purposes of prescriptions is to enable physicians to moonitor medicines for side effects. Without prescriptions, this will not happen.

Ironically, the school cannot even dispense Motrin without the parent’s written permission.

Things like this make me wish God would bring things to an end really quickly.

Prescription or no prescription, how safe is the morning after pill? When news of this pill first came out I recall reading something about China wanting to supply the pill to Americans. WTF??? How really stupid would it be....for us to accept morning after pills manufactured in China...considering their past track record re: dangerous and destructive products exported here? Not to mention their known human rights violations track record.

If China is indeed allowed to ‘provide’ the morning after pill to Americans with the full sanction by Obama and the Democrat leftists in power, what are they aiming for here? Mass sterilization? I can’t think of a better way for one of America’s enemies to ‘bring us down’ than that. Of course....we probably wouldn’t know the pills caused sterilization until it was way too late.

Those who want to will deny it. Anything to engage in what they want.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least to find that you are correct even though you and I will be labeled conspiracy nuts.

Label away. Time will tell. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it.

If I'm not, they were warned.
