Two sports stories made headlines yesterday: The New York Jets released openly Christian quarterback Tim Tebow, and NBA player Jason Collins came out of the closet, making him the first active, openly gay professional athlete in the four major U.S. sports (basketball, football, baseball and hockey).
It's not surprising to hear of Tebow's release; he rarely played for the Jets, was seldom used at all, and ended up being their third-string quarterback. I'm certainly no sports analyst, but it seems to me that he really wasn't given much of a chance in New York, especially considering that starting quarterback Mark Sanchez struggled for several games and was eventually benched.
I'd like to think Tebow's release had everything to do with his performance on the field (for the few minutes he did play) and not due to his "controversial" Christian beliefs. Call me conspiratorial, but I'm not entirely convinced that's the case.
Then we have the news that NBA player Jason Collins has announced he's gay. The mainstream media are, not surprisingly, gushing over him, even saying he's courageous for proclaiming his homosexuality to the world. But it appears that several NBA executives--speaking anonymously, of course--are far from certain that his career in the NBA will continue.

Of the first 14 teams reached by ESPN.com in an anonymous survey, six said they expect to see Jason Collins in the NBA next season in the wake of his revelation Monday that he is gay.
The other eight teams that expressed some measure of doubt all cited Collins' age and corresponding questions about his ability to make a productive on-court contribution as the overriding reason he wouldn't be able to find a job for his 13th season, not because of fallout from the announcement....

Most articles on Tebow call him polarizing. Tebow isn’t polarizing, the media is.
Real Christians need to think about giving their money to the NFL that obviously does not welcome Christian athletes who witness to the faith.

Yes, when this brouhaha began, I was really amazed. I figured all of these "offended" people, who couldn't take a man kneeling and saying a little prayer after a good play, had never watched a baseball game. These players are forever crossing themselves and pointing to heaven. The Mariner's pitcher Felix Hernandez has something, I know not what, tatooed onto the inside of both wrists and when he makes a particularly good out, he kisses the inside of each wrist and points to heaven. I know of another pitcher that I have watched (can't think of his name) who, before the first pitch he throws, he quietly steps off behind the mound, removes his cap, bows his head and says a prayer. Then, he starts pitching. Batters, when they reach a base safely, will cross themselves.
Now, I really don't want these easily offended people to suddenly discover that a lot of baseball players are Hispanic and Catholic and they show it on the field; but, it is amazing that Tebow had such a reaction when this stuff goes on all the time.

I understand the left not wanting me to speak the truth about what they do to each other and why does he and others like him have the need to tell us this anyway?
Does he feel better now that has got attention, was he not happy with all the money he made but now has to become a media whore to an agenda which most oppose but the media will make it look that us conservatives are the ones who are at fault for wanting normal marriage and normal couples raising kids

What so brave in saying that today when he has all the media, Hollywood, colleges, laws bills and even the white house on his side.

This is why he came out now. The guy was on 6 teams in 12 years. Believe me when I say his being a homosexual was no secret. But now that he ANNOUNCED and has become a HERO and backed by the PRESIDENT , it will be extremely hard for the NBA to let him go next season for any reason. Can you say MEGA-MILLION dollar lawsuit!
I bet Mark Cuban will sign him.
My grandparents would believe they had been transported to bizzaro world if they were alive today. An openly Christian athlete is criticized for making his faith a matter of public record when His savior commands him to make disciples of all men. And there seems to be no limit on the vile things which can be said by Tebow’s critics.
And this same crowd celebrates and praises an athlete for publicly proclaiming a behavior which should be kept private and some find distasteful or repulsive. However, if anyone dare raises a contrary opinion it will end their career and warrant death threats.
How did this reversal happen in a few short years? And Christians were mocked when they pointed out the slippery slope we were treading.
And then there is the trial shedding light on an abortion house of horrors, terrorists on welfare, on and on. May God have mercy on us. His sovereign will is that I live in such days. Lord, bring revival and come quickly.

I think you are wrong on the bushel analogy. Jesus states you do not light a lamp and than put it under a basket - bushel or otherwise. You light the lamp and place it high, so the light shines everywhere. Same with Christianity. You are not to keep your belief under cover - you are to proclaim yourself proudly as a believer.
The NFL does not welcome quarterbacks who complete less than half their passes.

One can proselytize yto spread The Word, but one’s discussions with God should not be a public spectacle.
