Its no secret that a lot of people do not prepare for the worst. Whether its an economic collapse, a natural disaster, man-made disaster or any other kind of an emergency, it seems most households are not properly equipped to handle a crisis. This was apparent with recent events like Hurricane Sandy and the severe weather disasters in the Midwest and south in the middle of last year.

You do know how to distill, don’t you?
Whoa before 9:AM. I never start before 9. Unless of course I'm still going from the night before.

I see. This thread was started last night at about 11. I'm getting old. Saturday night and I'm in bed before 11.
Sure. Wheat, hops, potatoes, barley, yeast, even raisins, etc.
Well that and good red wine. LOL!!
About a year ago, I knew I had to do something about not having any fishing gear. I used to have it, but a step-son took it when my husband died as it was in the house my husband had, and I didn't raise a problem about that. So, I had nothing.
I bought a Shakespeare rod/reel (ladies set with pink on it) with some tackle and box included and I stuck it in a closet. It's still in that hard plastic wrap. My son was here helping me clean out some stuff and found that rod/reel. He looked at me and I told him every person needed to have that and I had none until I got that. He remembered the old rods/reels and equipment. There is a lake here about 5-6 miles from me. I don't have a fishing license but in a SHTF situation, I doubt anyone would be checking and if they did, as Hillary said, “What does it matter?” Put me in jail and they have to feed me.
Old Sarge lives in Florida. I'll bet you have gobs of fishing equipment.
Johnny, is there a body of water near you that has fish?

LOL. That is too good to pass up. I put that down in my profile.
I spent months searching for the best solar setup for me without getting a loan at the bank. It's a 20 watt solar panel. The panel has a 10 ft. long cord with female cigarette socket attached. The included charger unit has a male plug to fit the socket. It fast charges all sizes of rechargeable batteries. I also have a male cigarette plug with small USB plug that fits the USB port of my Kindle. You may have one for your phone that fits the Kindle. The panel with the long cord and female plug, plus the charger included, cost $160. That amount of money means I will have charged batteries for light and fans and portable TV as long as I need it and be able to read books in the dull times.
Here is the description on Amazon about this unit:
“Great battery charger for solar charging all your AAA, AA, C, D or 9V rechargeable batteries. Will charge 2 or 4 batteries at a time, NiMH or NiCD batteries only. Charges AA, C & D batteries at 850mA max. charge rate, AAA’s at 400mA and 9V at 15mA. This means you can charge typical AA’s in about 3 hours. Smart charger circuitry prevents batteries from over-charging. 20 Watt solar panel comes with female lighter socket and 10 foot cable. Use solar panel to charge your smartphones, iPod, iPhone and more. Charger comes with male plug to connect to solar panel or car lighter and also comes with 120V AC charger.”
post 97 explains my power source.
“You mean like the lake within walking distance where the neighbor and I caught the 44 lb. yellow catfish? Yeah.”
Didn’t know you had body of water that close. In SHTF, it would likely be covered with zombies looking for water and fish. I think the lake here would be the same but I still wanted that rod/reel/tackle. Not having a way to fish, was not acceptable. I know there are primitive ways to fish, but I preferred to have a better way since I could.
There are also more advanced ways to fish, as well. ;)
