"The controversial moment SWAT teams ordered innocent neighbors out of their houses at GUNPOINT during door-to-door searches for the Boston bomber"
Detailed account.
N.Y. Mayor Michael Bloomberg: Constitution must change to give government more power

And a surprising number of FReepers agree with Mayor Mike.
So, ACLU, are these searches still legal and constitutional? Shouldn’t they let the people stay in their homes to witness the searches, or do they want to ransack the places unobserved? Pretty cowardly for well-armored jackboots, I say.
I don’t believe we need SWAT teams or no-knock raids. There was a 2:00am raid on my rental unit by 12 machinegun carrying, fully armored deputies. They knocked down MY front door. They were after a drunk, elderly couple that were growing 48 18” tall pot plants.
Earlier that day, there had been 3 deputies there and the couple was falling down drunk. The deputies saw the plants, but didn’t arrest these two elderly idiots. They waited for a no-knock raid.
Why? At a guess, overtime. Also, why have a SWAT team if you don’t use it? I was really annoyed.
I’m grateful they didn’t drive their armored car though my rental unit.
The second terrorist was caught by (an otherwise scourged) smoker, risking his very life for a smoke, not by someone huttled in there cast iron bath tub trying to sip green tea -quietly shuuush!
Then, same guy braves a ladder to take a peak, couldn’t call in something so trivial as his boat cover laying funny.
Steeple don’t matter, they don’t make a difference! Never did.
What did they have to say about it?
I just don’t see how a K-9 and his handler could not track this guy? I’ve seen a dog find a rock tossed down a hillside by its owner come back with the very same rock. Sometimes it took a while, but he always found it. In this case the dog had blood and maybe clothes, yet unable to track. Just saying..
Reported by a foreign press. Where’s ours?
(maybe because a terrorist was in the neighborhood who just may have had another big bomb in his posession?)
Many of the replies on the crap threads like this makes FR look like the right wing equivalent of DU.............Sheesh!
Having the civilians out of the house during the search is for their own safety.
Lawsuits coming.
I would have demanded to see a warrant. If they don’t have it my doors will remain locked.
The alleged perp was found outside of the zone identified by the SWAT team authorities. It was the cooperation and alert report by a citizen that led to the capture of suspect number two.
The SWAT teams failed to find the perp via their door to door reckless, frantic, and hysterical approach inside the wrong search zone. It appears to me to be an expensive and ineffective way to conduct a manhunt.
Hopefully the decision makers will review their approach, and maybe use more common sense. Would they have forced people out if they knew that law abiding citizens were armed? Maybe so. But their tactics failed to locate and capture the alleged perp. A law abiding and cooperative citizen found the perp for them.
Could they have used a dog to track the suspect? Can cities afford such ineffective, frantic, and intrusive man hunts? Would the SWAT teams have found the perp if their search zone included the property with the boat? Would the searchers have simple forced the occupants out of the house, searched the house, and then moved on with the perp hiding in the boat?
Then there is this: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3011493/posts
Leave your door locked and don’t answer! Did they break down doors to gain entry? If I don’t answer the door of my own home I was ordered to stay in am I breaking any law? What if I am in the shower, making love to my wife, have a hot dangerous melting pot of lead making bullets that cannot be safely left unattended, sleeping, deaf??? I did not ask to be defended in my own home, nor would I hand over the weapon in my hand and leave at gun point.
Thanks for posting. Another reason why the wire and media of record should not be relied on for anything but propaganda. Homeowners should check to see if any household items are missing or were injured while fleeing and then sue.
Shutting down Boston and its suburbs then have armed troops order citizens out of their homes on a mere suspicion one terrorist MIGHT be in the area then have radio and tv news report the actions of citizen compliance were completely voluntary lie. I hope this gets picked up by some conservative talkie hosts

Let me know when the Boston area people, who applauded the police, start complaining about the police tracking down the terrorist punk.
