More details have emerged about the Friday night capture that brought the intensive manhunt for the Boston bombing suspects to an end. Suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, had been hiding in a boat in Watertown, Mass. Authorities responded to a call from a local man late Friday, after he observed that a tarp covering his boat had been disturbed and there was blood in the boat.
The FBI hostage rescue teams (HRT) planned and executed their operation to clear the boat by lobbing "flash-bangs" into it, which forced the young man to climb out, according to CBS News senior correspondent John Miller. Later the agents observed that Dzhokhar had been shot in the neck and in the leg.
Based on "the amount of blood" the homeowner saw in the boat, it is likely Dzhokhar was shot as long as 20 hours before being discovered, Miller said, referring to the battle earlier Thursday that led to the death of the other bombing suspect, Dzhokhar's 26-year-old brother, Tamerlan.
It was a "fierce gun battle with police after the carjacking and the car chase, at which point they were apparently exchanging gun fire, but also throwing homemade grenades and one large satchel bomb at police officers, so he had been bleeding for a long time," Miller said.
In a photo of authorities apprehending Dzhokhar released Friday, a SWAT team medic can be seen administering an "ambu" resuscitation bag to assist him in his breathing. Another photo shows Dzhokhar climbing out of the boat under his own power, following the commands of the HRT (Hostage Rescue Team), and Miller said it is clear from the images that, "this is a guy who was very weak at this point and probably -- had he not been discovered -- he might not have lived."
A Department of Justice official told CBS News that the arresting agents used an exemption clause to the Miranda law, allowing them to first question Tsarnaev on immediate security concerns before reading him his rights.
"In a case when there are exigent circumstances -- public safety is involved," explains Miller, the exception can be invoked to quickly obtain information; namely "are there other explosives? Is there another plot to blow something up? Are there other people?"
Still, the use of the public safety exception is rare. "We almost never see that," Miller said, adding that i was last invoked to question Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the so-called "underwear bomber" on the Christmas Day 2009 flight into Detroit.
In the coming weeks authorities will continue to question Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who Miller calls "an intelligence windfall." He added that the primary questions for Tsarnaev are those posed by President Obama in his addresses to Boston and to the nation throughout the week: "How did you do this? How did you plan this? And did you have help?"
He must have been talking about interrogation under Kleig lights.
I hope he suffered miserably while he was hiding for all those hours.

I watched the interview.
The stepson wasn’t talking about the police taking too long. The stepson was not at the house with the parents.
The Dad saw the bloody boat, checked it out, saw the body and called the police who immediately responded because they were already in the area.
After the police responded, the son turned the TV on and saw reports that police were at the parents address.
He tried calling for 30 minutes to the parents but could not
get a hold of the parents because, in a rush of being evacuated by police, they had left their cell phones behind.
Perhaps you're assuming that this was a two man operation. I highly doubt it. Too many unexploded bombs were found in the vicinity for two guys to have planted them all.
Then there's the mysterious case of the Saudi (Al Harbi?) who was injured in the blast, but is now suddenly on a fast track to deportation. Lots of other loose ends have popped up as well, and are quickly being tied together as we speak.
Point is, these youngsters didn't commit this atrocity all on their own. Terrorists never do. There's always a hidden command and control network behind them.
And remember, the guy only went out after they lifted the 6 PM curfew.
He must be having nightmares at the possiblilties of what could have happened. Pretty brave of him to even look in the boat.
‘...IF IT WASNT FOR AN ORDINARY CITIZEN, ONE SINGLE ORDINARY UNPAID CITIZEN.....THE TERRORIST WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN FOUND!’
agree. makes me crazy when media/politicians say the question is “WHY” did these guys do this. The real question is WHY do patriotic Americans continue to let politicians adversely affect the majority of good people by caving into the demands of people who hate America and want to change her into some foreign country. The political correctness NEEDS To STOP!
After the Marathon bombing, all in the stadium at the hockey game sang along when our National Anthem was sung. Why doesn’t that happen at EVERY sports event?? Wouldn’t it be great if it was not a problem for our kids in American schools to pledge allegiance to the American flag? Americans NEED to return to patriotism and have no concern about expressing our patriotism.....and if some are offended, too bad!
They want to sell the house and move. I am sure their address could become a mecca for the Muslims.
Good point, or, in 12 years hell receive a professorship and tenure at one of our universities.
He can pal around with a future Democrat president....

EX ACT LEEEEEE
Those are good points especially about more than those two. I was only comparing the two brothers. Older one was a 5-prayers-a-day Muslim boxer with stated ambition to be in the Olympics. The younger went to college mostly to socialize. There are many cases where older brothers led younger brothers in criminality (I’m not saying the opposite is impossible, just less likely)
He should get that boat onto Craigslist as is and sell it for $1MM
Don’t know if you saw this.
One thing I don't understand: If the perp was so weak, how could he exchange gun fire? How come there are no photos of his guns?
Oh forget it, if a Tea party member did this, not that any would, they would CONSTANTLY be called a Tea party EXTREMIST by the CPM (communist propaganda machine)...
“They got the Tea party extremist cornered in the boat....there is a shoot out with the Tea party extremist...Obviously the Tea party extremist must belong to the NRA..”
OMG it would be non stop.
There is a picture of him surrending sitting straight up. He could shoot guns. He was weak, but not immobile weak.
After a 200-round exchange, the terrorist only had two bullet wounds, but a large loss of blood, and yet climbed out of the boat on his own power, following the commands of the HRT.
Where's the mention or reporter's question about the gun he (and/or his brother) had? How could he be climbing out on his own power with all that (claimed) blood loss, which required a resuscitation bag to help him breath? How do they know he didn't have a bomb strapped on when they let him climb out on his own? What about the firefight that (allegedly) occurred at the boat itself between the terrorist and the policemen responding to the owner's 911 call?
Too much of this doesn't fit together.
Yep, saw it. I compared the face feature by feature to the perp’s. To me, it definitely looks like him.
But one would assume that good reporters would dig these facts out. Not sure that's going to happen. The priority, as usual, will be on protecting the reputation of the current managers of all levels of the Government. From Obama down to the local precinct.
“I would think that a good K9 officer could have found him within an hour. Why did it take so long?”
Let the LEOs do their job and the accolade seeking politicians can just make a TV appearance without all the added security.
