Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday that he would support a new ban on assault weapons as an amendment to pending gun control legislation.
""I will vote for Dianne Feinstein's assault weapons ban," Reid said in an impassioned speech on the Senate floor.
"I will vote for assault weapons ban because maintaining law and order and saving lives is more important than preventing imagined tyranny."
"Today I choose to vote my conscience, not only as Harry Reid, a United States Senator, but also as a husband, a father, a grandfather, and I hope a friend to lots and lots of people," Reid concluded.
Reid's support for a new assault weapons ban marks a final break between the Nevada Democrat and the National Rifle Association, with whom he has previously enjoyed a relatively warm relationship.
Until recently, Reid's campaign website even featured an endorsement from NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre that expressly praised Reid for opposing a new assault weapons ban.

“maintaining law and order and saving lives is more important than preventing imagined tyranny.”
Said it right there, you little commie SOB.
Yes, and when it fails he will be unable to bring it up again since he would be on the losing side of the vote, unless he changes his vote at the last second.
If the NRA didn't see this coming then they're dumber than a box of 0bama voters.
saving lives is more important than preventing imagined tyranny.”

Since when has a card carrying member of the Death Cult been worried about saving lives? Never.
Harry, there’s a nursing home somewhere with your name on it.
Hey Harry!
GUNS SAVE LIVES!
Hey Harry, preventing tyranny saves lives.
Just ask the millions killed by their own goverment throughout the 20th century.
No. It isn’t.
Especially since you will have to send men with GUNS to try to kill me to take my GUNS away.
How does that protect anyone? All you have to do is LEAVE ME ALONE to save those lives.
Shall we add of the lives lost to tyranny and compare?
It has always been my experience that when someone tells you, you are imagining things, you are often so close to the truth as to take the hammer and hit the nail on the head.
If Dingy Harry had actually voted his conscience, no vote would have been cast...
Guns save lives.
Says it all.
Harry, theres a nursing home somewhere with your name on it.
You are too kind, I was thinking more along the lines of a long term Alzheimer’s facility.
“and your obligation to NEVER appear like you want to create a tyranny, outweighs EVERY design and plan you may want to try”
Americans have never before sensed, in such numbers, that the nation is literally turning into an authoritarian security state. YOU are creating that belief with your actions.
“Slavery is freedom”
It seems like the NRA and the TEA Party are the only two refuges from jackasses like this. The Repub Party is useless . . . full of RINOs and defanged TEA Party representatives sent by us to Washington who’ve become voiceless, useless, and spineless.
Never forget: This is the same idiot who says paying Federal incomes taxes is “voluntary”.

While I’m not positive, I think I’ve seen single-cell organisms with more intelligence that this clown. Why do the people of NV keep this guy in office?
Dens are already saying if you want to be save from bombings like in Boston you must give up your rights
Let us all remember that Arlen Specter would have been with Reid, Charlie Crist would have been with Reid, Richard Lugar would have been with Reid, Mike Castle would have been with Reid, Scott Brown would have been with Reid, Olympia Snowe would have been with Reid, Bob Bennett would have been with Reid, George Voinovich would have been with Reid, Judd Gregg would have been with Reid.
The democrats are struggling for votes because of the number of senators that have been removed or replaced over the last couple of cycles. And another cycle is coming up, when we can remove and replace more. Chambliss and Johanns are already leaving, Collins, Graham, Alexander, Enzi, Cochrane, Cornyn, and McConnell have proved unreliable.
