Hagel: Pentagon ready to assist civil authorities in Boston

WASHINGTON — The U.S. military is ready to assist after what Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel called a “cruel act of terror” in Boston.

Testifying on Capitol Hill, Hagel said Tuesday that the attack on the Boston Marathon was terrorism, and that the Pentagon is prepared to respond quickly to any request from domestic law enforcement.

“(The attack) is clearly an act of terror and will be approached as an act of terror,” Hagel said.

More than 400 Massachusetts National Guardsmen remain on duty to continue to assist local authorities, according to a news release from the Guard.

The 211th Military Police Battalion has been called upon to provide security. The Guard is also staging transportation assets such as buses and helicopters, according to the release.

Additionally, the Massachusetts National Guard’s 387th Ordnance Company (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) has been activated; and the 267th Combat Communications Squadron is headed to Boston to assist with interagency communication.

Additionally, the Navy sent one of its bomb-disposal units to Boston to assist local authorities as needed in the aftermath of the explosions.

“I will continue to consult closely with DOD senior leaders and my counterparts in other agencies,” Hagel said, “on how we can best support the government’s response and investigations.”

What should the DOD be doing besides taking out the Moon Rock?

Is this supposed to be a gradual introduction of martial law? Just to get people comfortable with the idea, and then when something bigger hits everybody will be prepared to think it’s no big deal?

Only those that wish to see a larger more intrusive Fed had motive for the bombings.

I think so.

Posse comitatus.

By the way, this may form part of the plan for graduated martial law implementation, but we’ve been pretty far down that road already. The Civil War and reconstruction went all the way. The National Guard has been nationalized who knows how many times for use in what are ostensibly state issues. Most famously to enforce desegregation, though that was an edict from the federal courts. Also for piddling crap like the Rodney King riots.

The DEA, FBI, ATF, etc. are technically paramilitary outfits, but I don’t see any good reason to think of them as anything but military.

We all know this is BS. This will work in the Northeast and California. Doubt that it will work in blue states. However, this is the beginning. Remember the Marxist axiom: “The end justifies the means”. I don't put anything past these bastards.

graduated martial law implementation...

In an admittedly small way, but worth a mention here, is what Gov "mini-me" did PRIOR TO the blizzard that hit a couple of months ago here in MA. With the hardest to be hit Cape, nearly nada to fall in the Berkshires, and BEFORE a single flake had fallen, the subjects of the Peoples Republic here were forbidden by law from driving, from one end of the state to the other. The bulk of the storm was from midnight to 5 AM, when very few would be on the roads anyway, during the period when plows need to and did do their thing. But, that didn't stop this writ by our king to outlaw anybody on the road from 4 PM thru much of the following day.... even in the Berkshires where an inch or two fell.

Obviously, this was not martial law; BUT, it was the first time since 1978 such a ban was put in place. Unlike 1978, which was put in place due to a current demonstrated need, the bliz of 2013 was put in place prior to a single flake early in the day, for 4 pm, for a storm that didn't even start with the 1-2" per hour stuff till midnight. This has gotta be a fine example of incrementalism...

Posse comitatus.

Thanks for bringing that up. I doubt any one in today's DoD or WH knows what that means. We will need to gently remind them.

I remember that. It stood out to me, since I’m from MN, where your routine is unchanged by snowfall even were we to get 12 inches at rush hour. But no one treated it like it was crazy, so I didn’t think much of it. Now that I reconsider, I’d guess it was less about controlling the populace than not wanting to pay for plow rental.

But no one treated it like it was crazy...

The folks, like conservatives, that saw it for what it was - an abuse of gov power - did see it as a serious abuse of power, but no media coverage of those thoughts and discussions. That was relegated to a few pillars of remaining rational discussion in this state. The FR MA blog being one of them.

This is coming, and it won't be easy to resist. There will be many in the military who will follow these orders because they will believe they are fighting terrorist, and any resistance will probably be successfully labeled as the same people who killed, and maimed innocent civilians. We are up against a much more powerful force than many of us realize. They control the media, and they will have success with this.

The events surrounding the bombing aren't normal either. The government is at the very least covering something up in my opinion. I believe some in the government knew this was going to happen. The FBI was there before the race, and I don't think that's just a coincident. I think they are being manipulated, and not all knowingly a part of some elaborate conspiracy theory. It's not much different than how they will get many in the military and law enforcement to believe they are doing the right thing and killing terrorist, instead of legitimate Patriots. If they are successful at doing that there will not be a resistance.

I believe some in the government knew this was coming. A lot people don't think these things are possible, because they can't see how so many people could be involved in an act of terrorism and then remain silent, but it doesn't take many to manipulate others into believing they are doing good.

Nothing about this bombing seems right. The FBI was telling everyone not be alarmed, because they were just conducting s drill before the race. They had bomb sniffing dogs and spotters on the roofs. If they were causing alarm they were there in force, but two bombs got through. Have I missed something since this information came our? What did they say about the third explosion they reported before apparently taking back?

“(The attack) is clearly an act of terror and will be approached as an act of terror,” Hagel said.

Why is it terrorism?
3 people were murdered.
Adam Lanza attacked a school, locked 20 some children teachers in a classroom and systematically murdered them. I’ll bet they were terrified. But that was just gun violence... I’ll bet the rest of the children in school were terrified.. I’ll bet the parents and community was terrified..

That makes me kinda nervous ...

Obummer and his cohorts no longer use the term “terrorism” to describe acts of terror, especially when Muslims are involved.

But now the Pentagon DOES use the term?

I’m worried that it isn’t the classic “terrorist” we’ve all come to know and despise that they’re looking for.
