Today it is more clear than ever why Niles doubted FDR genuinely supported Zionism.
President Barack Obama has spoken of his deep admiration for Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his desire to emulate FDRs leadership style. But in the wake of the discovery of new documents detailing FDRs behind-the-scenes coldness regarding the creation of a Jewish state, many Israelis will be hoping that sentiment does not extend to Roosevelts views on Zionism.

During the 1930's FDR could have prohibited American businesses from doing business with the Nazis but didn't. FDR could have permitted the St. Louis to enter the United States but didn't. In the 1930's after having seen unspeakable atrocities committed by the Japanese, FDR could have refused to do business with the Japan but didn't. When push finally came to shove, FDR, the great progressive rounded up the Japanese and locked them in camps.

From all Ive read on FDR, he was downright anti-semitic, period.FDR apologists may soon show up here to blame any anti-Semitism/zionism in FDR's administration on the State Department as if FDR had no control over that department.
