How North Korea Could Destroy The United States
Investor's Business Daily ^ | April 5, 2013 | IBD EDITORIALS

National Security: The administration moves an advanced missile defense system to Guam because it knows a single low-yield nuke detonated at high altitude could send America back in time a hundred years.

The announcement Wednesday by the Defense Department that it would soon deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (THAAD), a missile defense system inherited from the Bush administration, to Guam underscores the seriousness of the threat from North Korea, whose actions, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel rightly said, "present a real and clear danger."

This move comes after the Obama administration reversed its previous scuttling of Bush administration plans to increase our ground-based interceptor force in Alaska and the deployment of two destroyers equipped with Aegis missile defense systems, the Decatur and the John McCain, to the region.

Some observers dismissed it as familiar bluster when North Korea's 28-year-old raging runt, Kim Jong-un, signed an order for North Korea's strategic rocket forces to be on standby to fire at U.S. targets in front of a map that included Austin, Texas, as a target.

But other observers are concerned that a specific target may not be what the possibly imploding North Korean regime may have in mind.

The three-stage missile North Korea launched last December that also orbited a "package," which experts say could be a test to orbit a nuclear weapon that then would be de-orbited on command anywhere over the U.S. and exploded at a high altitude, releasing an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). That would fry electronic circuitry and the nation's power grid.

Without going into too much detail, we have the ability to destroy a city without creating radioactivity. Problem is, once we do it, everyone KNOWS we can do it, and we will face international pressure to dismantle the weapon/system. Additionally, other countries will immediately start similar programs in their country and we will find ourselves in the position of being the only one WITHOUT this system...

This weapon is really a “use once” kind of thing and I don’t think we are willing to use our one shot on this pipsqueak.

Blackmail to receive more money / aid.
The 20 something third generation dictator needs to prove to his people and the world that he’s serious. Or needs an external war to keep peace internally.

The USA is ripe for very bad things to happen to us.

**************

Amen to that. Every day there's some new mess that will require weeks if not years to correct. And then there's another one. And another.

An EMP attack would assuredly cause problems, from minor to catastrophic. Don't forget that Iran has studied EMP for years and they practiced their "Scud in a Bucket" trick in the landlocked Caspian Sea, where our subs couldn't watch them.

For generations, the American version of "war" meant getting on a boat and going overseas to shoot at the enemy out somebody else's kitchen window. I don't think we'll be so lucky next during the next big war.

That’s for certain. There are so many ways we could be hurt.

I really do beleive God is going to let us fend for ourselves the next time. We’ve lost His protection/blessing to a huge extent.

IMO

I’m sitting on top of some of it right now.

It’s just not economical to get to at the present.

We used to mess with the hostess’ heads when waiting for a table.

They’re young and don’t know stuff.

When the ask “How many?”; tell them.

When they ask for name, tell them “Donner”.

The looks on other people waiting when they call out, “Donner party - your table is ready.” is priceless.

(Very few get it when you tell them “Triplehorne” either.)

Its amazing how many people have food that needs heating stored, but little idea how they’re going to heat it.

And candles are far more useful than many realize for the times that you need just a little light. Bought a bunch of them when a store was going out of business, and had lots of odd colored candles left after people had scarfed all the white ones. Paid about 10 cents each for them.

But no one to shoot them, they all died from stravation and bad water, because you know having preparedness supplies that last you more than a week to ten days is CRAZY!

Not to mention "cult-like"...

That was smart to do. Mine are jar candles and I can rig a Sterno stove so it will fit over one and give me a way to warm food if I were to run out of canned heat, which I never will - well, I could sometime after a year.

The very best stove for anyone, to last a lifetime and cook with a small amount of most anything that is biomass, is the “Wood Biomass Stove” that is very heavy and one can cook a meal using several twigs and that's it. That stove is scientific and burns every bit of the small amount of fuel at a high temperature. All that is left is a bit of ash.

It will also use a small amount of charcoal, just a few pieces, and burn every bit of it, again at a high temperature.

I have Kartographer to thank for telling me about this kind of stove. He, of course, made his from scratch, and I bought mine already made.

I have some bushes outside my front door, and could just break off several twigs and that cooks dinner with this stove. Any small pieces of wood from any source is all one needs with this stove. Seashells would also work, any biomass will work.

Oh, good, I always wanted to be in a Cult. Let's see, we could have “Cult Cooking Class”, “Cult Firearm Class”, we could have titles, like “Major Domo Cult Leader Kartographer”, “Sergeant of the Cult Old Sarge”.

The possibilities of great sounding titles are endless. Could we have uniforms? Could mine be PINK to match my PINK rifle?

Yeah, I have one and it is great. We gave one to our son as well. It makes a great present.

Look it up on Amazon. For not much more than a dinner out you can get one and stop worrying about how you will cook or heat water. As you say, it will burn about anything but thrives on small wood like branches you can scavenge and don't need to cut or spilt. The deluxe versions run around $129, but they are well made and should last forever.

Sea shells, probably not. They are almost 100% calcium carbonate (the stuff portland cement is made from).

When you heat them, they break down to a powder, and that is the cement. They’re also good for making Bocci Ball courts :o)
