In an article for Slate, scientist Patrica Brennan defended her government-funded research into duck genitalia, paid for by the National Science Foundation. She lamented the fact that 88.7 percent of respondents to a Fox News online poll were against the government funding her study. Brennan's research examines duck rape and how females' genitalia have evolved to prevent insemination because the male ducks' penises spiral counterclockwise while females' vaginas spiral clockwise. Who knew the feminist movement could be inspired by ducks?

Scientists on welfare.
Like everything else, let them pay their own way
I want a Government Grant that will allow me to %itchslap every dumb butt scientist who comes up with stuff like this.
What do you think my odds are of getting approved? Would it help if I said “but it’s for the children!”
Eisenhower’s Farewell speech. Everyone knows about the “military industrial complex part”. They never seem to remind us of the other part, “The Government/university research complex”
“kin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.
In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.
Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been over shadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.
The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.
Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.”
> Scientists on welfare.
Soon science grants will be available via EBT cards.
A few years ago I was watching a show about seals in Hawaii. The narrator mentioned that the man studying the seals was being supported by a grant from a university.
I thought wouldn’t it be nice to spend my days being payed to count seals in Hawaii. I would wear board shorts and sunglasses and ride around in a Zodiac. I would draw pictures of seals. I would give them cutesy little names. All on somebody else’s dime.
Wouldn’t life be sweet?
#%@& a duck on your own time, doc!
Being an Engineer, and amateur scientist, throughout the last dozen or so years, I have come up with any number of ideas to meld my hobbies with various vogue concepts like global warming to create high dollar grants to fund my interests and early retirement. Unfortunately, being a conservative, my morals and scruples, prevent me from forcing other conservatives to fund my personal endeavors which would benefit nobody but myself (though I don’t have a problem with Demonrats paying). But if anybody wants to voluntarily contribute, call me at 555-3126.
No no no no no.
You're doing it all wrong.
Here. Let me help.
"I propose an important study on the psychological effects of violent rhetoric and behavior directed against a significant subset of the population of government-associated scientific research personnel, based on an experimental protocol. This important study will help us better understand the psychology of such violence, including its lasting effects, and will point the way toward a more satisfactory resolution of conflicts generated as a result of research activities by the experimental population, and by the responses from those adverse to the relevant activities."
"Study length is projected at 2 years, with a required budget of $3.2 million."
Now. Farm that out to as many government grant-makers as possible.
When you get funded, let me know. I want to be a research assistant.
lol.
Selling Used Taco’s to the masses
Why that's the case is a different story and I doubt the researcher quite figured it out.
After all, if a Duck Sister didn't like Coyote she could just FLY AWAY 'cause she's a Duck.
See, I picked that knowledge up for less than $5.00
It's my take that the most bizarre animal behavior is on display every day, free of charge, in governments around the world. No need to pester the ducks. BTW, who knows for sure it's duck rape? Maybe they just like it rough. Who are we to judge?
“Brennan’s research examines duck rape and how females’ genitalia have evolved to prevent insemination because the male ducks’ penises spiral counterclockwise while females’ vaginas spiral clockwise.”
Even if it’s consensual they must have to drink a lot of wine first to make that setup work.
"Words fail me."
Righty tighty lefty loosey?
Hahahahahahahahahahaha....
I think I know what Jeff Winston does for a living...:)
(SOMEONE has to write all those grant applications, though, right?)
The picture fails too
Most of these scientists make welfare mothers look like pikers.
