Louisville sophomore Kevin Ware was taken from the court on a stretcher after a serious leg injury this afternoon during the NCAA Midwest region basketball final.

It is terrible to see this happen to anyone, let alone an elite athlete in his prime.

There is nothing to do but pray and hope this is not as bad as it looks:

WARNING! Extremely graphic!

Louisville player Kevin Ware breaks his whole leg on bad fall!

Kevin Ware has a wild backstory. His recruitment to UCF led, in part, to their probation.

I broke my femur when I was 7. I know the pain.

Prayers up for this brave young man.

After sulking over the Gators’ poor performance today, this put things in perspective.

Prayers up for this brave young man.

Not to be snarky, but a brave young man is a US soldier going into Afghanistan knowing he has a good chance of being maimed or killed.

This was just a kid playing ball who randomly got hurt on national tv where everybody could watch it live.

Broken in two places with a bone sticking 6 inches out of his leg. He kept telling his team mates to win the game. Win the game. (Saw it down here in Oz - we get the NCAA series)

I’m not going to look because I won’t be able to unlook.

To those who were brave enough to look, how did he fall which caused his leg to break?

What struck me is that not a single one of his teammates had the instinct to help. They all cowered at the sight of the injury. The heroes are not playing ball.

Even Coach K was crying..they all were..I didnt see the injury go down but the still images of it just looked horrendous..I remember watching a Clipper game when former Clipper Shaun Livingston’s kneecap popped out, he was screaming in pain and it looked SO bad..unfortunately these kind of injuries do happen

It is snarky.

You do not expect to be injured in a fashion that will change your life for ever playing basketball.

Pray for the young man AND out military who willing accept the risks.

I had completely forgotten the time, more than 40 years ago, when I was playing basketball on an outdoor court, locked my foot in a shallow hole and got spun about nearly 90 degrees by someone going for the ball. The pain was something else again.

It is snarky.

Yes, I second that. Better not to say anything and keep such sentiments to oneself. If someone had tried to compare the player directly to a war hero, I would have thought it appropriate, but this is in a different context.

It wasn't really a fall as such. He made a running leap in the air, and when he came down, his leg just snapped like a twig when his foot hit the floor.

He didn't actually fall - he was just gliding kind of sideways and landed on his right leg. It didn't even look like a hard landing, basketball players stop like that all the time and you wouldn't expect worse than a sprained ankle or knee even if it was a hard jolt. But his whole lower leg just snapped in half and down he went. I wonder if he had some previously undiagnosed condition.

People on twitter are expressing prayers for the young man, and you question the faith of everyone of the posters....how special.
