John 20:1-10 (KJV)
1The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
2Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4So they ran both together: and the other disciple did out run Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
9For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
10Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

My favorite! There is so much more to Handel’s Messiah than just the Hallelujah Chorus.
And even if there weren’t, it would be a Masterpiece for that one Song alone!

Good evening, Maestro! Thanks very much for the Mahler - a formidable work, indeed! I've bookmarked it and will listen on the morrow.

I just started the video and it is playing through my speakers.
I have seen Leonard Bernstein conduct many times, but not Mahler.

Keep on eye on the roadmap I provided. It makes everything clearer. And have those tissues ready at the end.

Thank You for the “roadmap”. This is new music for me. My Dad had an incredible Library but only got interested in Mahler in his later years, so it wasn’t part of my childhood soundtrack.

I discovered Mahler in college. My father ranked him as “some obscure German symphonist.” He was clueless.

I had a friend in college who would only listen to TWO composers...
Mahler
and
Frank Zappa!
But, as you said, he was relatively unknown until Bernstein “resurrected” him, so it is reasonable that I didn’t “grow up” with his music..

It is my favorite as well. It bothers me that at my church we have sung the Hallelujah Chorus, which is in the Christmas portion of the Messiah, rather than Worthy. The reason given was that our sops couldn't hit the high "A's" - absolute nonsense IMHO.
Some 20 years ago we (Oratorio Society of Washington) performed Messiah at The Kennedy Center with the National Symphony. After closing with Worthy/Amen, I was so high I didn't come down for several hours. Got home at about midnight and could not get to sleep until about 4:00 a.m.

If you mean the High “A” BELOW high “C”, that’s AWFUL!
Most of my students can hit the High “c”, even the guys. The “A” should be a piece of cake...unless the CONTEXT and the Vowel are what’s making it hard.
It is strange that the Hallelujah Chorus is associated with Christmas, since it is almost word-for-word from the Book of Revelation, (as is Worthy), and glorifies the Risen and Reigning Lord.
I know what you mean about a concert making you “high”. After something like that, the adrenaline has totally saturated your system. Who can possibly sleep!
And then, there is the Spiritual Aspect! WOW!
So, it’s all GOOD! :-)

Happy Easter, Colonel, and a Blessed Lord's Day to you and yours. Thank you. My sister has come from California for a week, and she and my Mom and I are doing a lot of remembering.
We are blessed.
