City Commissioner James Henry Brooks Sr. has been charged with influencing a witness and obstructing the investigation of the fatal shooting of a baby and wounding of his mother March 21.
Brooks, also charged with racketeering in unrelated cases in Camden County, was booked into the Glynn County jail.
He was at the Glynn County Courthouse Monday when the mother of murder defendant De'Marquise Elkins left the courthouse after her son's initial court appearance. As Karimah Elkins and another woman walked from the courthouse, a county police investigator tried to speak with her. Brooks stepped between them and prevented the officer from speaking with the mother, officials said.
A bail of $1,256 has been set on the obstruction charge, but there is no bail on the charge of influencing witnesses, authorities said.

Brunswick LEO’s apparently mean business in getting to the bottom of this case.
Is he black??
Well, he ain’t no Cracka, Baby.;-)
They found the .22 pistol? Top notch investigation.
I saw this in the Brunswick morning paper and said “if it were not so tragic (the crime was horrible ) this could be a Three Stooges Movie “. I cannot believe this is happening in the community.. I no longer feel safe in Brunswick.A good Friday lesson here..
The article leaves out so much information... is the commissioner a family member? Why was he escorting the woman out?
No need to ask that. Nothing to see here folks....no black on brown/white crime here...no hate crime....the accused is black, just getting his life together and had so much promise. Mother and auntie, sister are saints of the community.....bozo commissioner was just protecking his constituency..
It sounds like there is more to this case than there was at first glance. Perhaps they are making sure that there will not be a Zimmerman circus occurring there.
Nice pony tail.
This a-hole is probably thinking along the same lines as a black detroiter I encountered on a discussion thread on FB... one of these who thinks the two feral animals should go free “because of past injustices.” His main example was the Emmitt Till murder from 1955.
Friggin’ amazing.
Holder’s people.
But here's some more info on Commissioner Brooks from another source:
This isn't the first time Brooks has been in trouble with the law.In January 2012 he was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on one count of bribery. He was accused of taking a $300 bribe for a man who wanted his record expunged so he could apply for a police officer job.
A judge denied his bond at the time because he felt Brooks could try to intimidate witnesses in an ongoing investigation.
Then in February 2012 prosecutors added a gun charge against him.
The District Attorneys presented a warrant to charge him with "possession of firearm by a convicted felon."
The Florida Times-Union reported at that time that Brooks had a prior felony conviction for taking out a credit card under a false name.
Woodpile overflowing
What a piece of work! Thanks Rooster!
Yet another fine, upstanding public servant doing his part to protect his kind. And these radical tribal leaders accuse all white people of racism? Enough of this nonsense, slavery died a long time ago, but these misfits cling to it for their freebies and to excuse their criminal actions.
Is that a mullet ?
