Law enforcement officials pushed back hundreds of people who were crowding around a large pile of merchandise outside an Augusta grocery store Tuesday afternoon.
But the goods sitting in the parking lot of the Laney Supermarket didn't make into anyone's hands.

“The potential for riots was extremely high ...”
So at least it was offered for donation. I don't blame whoever ordered the food to be trashed. You can bet that if the food was given away some shyster lawyer would be around the corner handing out his card for potential "food poisoning" victims.
I could not find in the link what the ‘merchandise’ was. Was it in fact food and was it canned goods or fresh produce? There is a huge *FAIL* in journalism today.
Mmmmm hmmmm, suspicions confirmed.
Yep, typical crowd looking for more free stuff!
“Free” Obama food.

Low info voters.
Georgia food riots?
Get out of Georgia as fast as possible...
We have people going through garbage all the time here. There are even people conducting freegan tours, people who know the times when the various stores put their trash out. Once it’s garbage, it should be legally free, with no lawsuits allowed. I’m always glad to see people making good use of the stuff.
I saw pictures of that crowd, yes, they looked like they didn’t know where their next meal was coming from /s
If this store closed due to the factors (shoplifting, employee theft, and the latest-”looting mobs” which can tear through a store like a swarm of locusts) which cause “food deserts” in “the hood”, then if I were the owner, I wouldn’t feel inclined to just give the food to the very people who contributed to my closure, either. If that were the case, of course.
oh sure thing...and we can always show up in california to help you folks with that 60 billion deficit and the high speed rail.
There was NO riot there were some folks who felt entitled and have never been told no in their life. Notice this didn’t end the way ‘gatherings’ in Los Angeles or Oakland or San Francisco do
Gotta watch those Amish - you know how it be.
Don't come here, as you likely be followed by thousands of hungry savages and rioters.
All I could think while watching this was “Hey, wasn’t this the middle of the day? Look at all these no-job-havin’ unemployable m_f_s!” Most of them probably can barely even read or write and probably think it’s not their fault.
Everyone of those folks in the video looked like they were on the verge of starvation / s
Not quite as bad, but some years ago the Smith's (Kroger) supermarket used to routinely send their day-old bakery sweets over to a Nevada Senior Center. Some old biddy found a touch on mould on one pie and rather than just throw it out, she made a big production of it to the Center's - and smith's - management.
The Senior Center no longer gets free bakery goods from Smiths.
