On Tuesday, FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and her colleague VA Rep. Jim Moran openly whined about the impacts of spending cuts on their personal office budgets. Moran fretted that, with the looming sequester cuts, he may have to cut one staffer from his office. Wasserman Schultz upped his ante, however. She, almost literally, suggested that her staff were on the brink of starvation, due to the cuts.
Speaking at a hearing of the House Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee, Wasserman Schultz worried that prices of meals in House restaurants are getting so high that aides are being "priced out" of a good meal.
At the carry-out cafe in the Cannon Office Building, where Wasserman Schultz has her office, you can get an 8oz bowl of Ham and Bean soup for $2. You can buy gourmet sandwiches and wraps for around $5. Both of these are cheaper than I can get at delis down the street from my house.
Her aides could walk across the street to the Longworth Building, which has a large sit-down cafeteria. Today, it is featuring a roasted stuffed Chicken, with asparagus and mashed potatoes, for around $7. Or, one could opt for a heaping 12oz bowl of Chicken Chili for $3....

They eat out for lunch? Lucky. I brown bag it because that’s all I can afford after $4 gas and other results of the ruling class policies.
I’m in Central Florida, not near Deb really.
I do not understand?
Did these staffers get a pay cut with the sequester cuts?
Tell them to try the private sector.
I am between Palm Beach and Miami and way too close Wasserman and Miran.
Though he’s not in my district, I would like to apologize on behalf of the commonwealth of Virginia for the earthly presence of Jim Moran. He’s Virginia’s answer to Alan Grayson.
Let them pack their lunch from home like their constituents do, What’s wrong with a good old bologna sandwich, boiled egg, a can of Vienna sausages, hot sauce, crackers, diet cola, Ramen noodles, left over spaghetti, some apples and bananas and pears? That’s lunch for 5 days.
a modest proposal, friend
boy that sign is so “last year”
I’ts now the $6 footlong and going on up to $7 and above
We used to buy whole subs, now buy half
what, Debbie doesn’t pay her staff $22 an hour? Like man of the people Elizabeth Fuaxcahontas Warren must certainly be doing
Or they could pack a PB&J for about a quarter.
Starving registered Democrats salute!!!!!!
Suck it up bi+@#. The price of food has quadrupled since your boy took office.
Right. A one-percenter whining about money.
That woman(?) fell out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down!
Out of touch? Seems to kind of a description .
Think this through - in order to be smarter than her staff, Debbie prolly redlines the IQ test at around 72.
Dear Debbie,
I am sorry to hear your aides food standards have been downgraded, but as President Obama says, ‘we all will need to sacrafice.’ As millions of Americans struggle to put food on the table and pay their taxes, healthcare mandates, and increased gasoline, electric, and water bills we have a hard time finding any empathy for Washington DC elites who needs to cut back on their meals.
hank you,
American Taxpayer
(looking in lunchbag) I have a Peanut Butter sandwich and an orange for my lunch today. If I'm feeling flush, I might spring for a bag of chips out of the machine.
I wish that I could afford $7 for lunch, every day. That's about $150 / month. Coincidentally, that's the approximate amount my health insurance has gone up since Obamacare got passed.
I wish Was-A-Man would shut its pie hole.
