Boston ^

Posted on 03/20/2013 9:55:54 AM PDT by Perdogg

NFL owners have passed a player safety rule barring ball carriers from using the crown of their helmets to make contact with a defender in the open field.

Several coaches and team executives expressed concern about officiating the new rule, but Commissioner Roger Goodell championed it and it passed Wednesday as the owners meetings concluded.

I like “Aussie Rules football”, BUT I just could figure out the rules or the jist of it.

You’re going to see the vicious hits penalized, or at least some of them. The ones where the fans say to themselves “Damn, that had to hurt”. It’s still subjective and at the discretion of the refs. They’ll do the best they can to be consistent but the media will question why one hit was penalized and a similar one not. It’s going to be a circus in the media, which they love.

He’s against it because he makes a good living posturing hollowly and being against stuff. I think it’s a good rule, if only because we’ve been seeing ball carriers duck “into” tackles causing helmet to helmet hits, probably trying to get that extra 15. And really if they’re trying to reduce concussions then they have to make the head not a legitimate weapon or target for everybody. “That brain damage causing hit was legal because of who hit who” just doesn’t fly if you’re really trying to make the game safer.

Of course, they will be awarding the last good Raiders team (ever from what I can tell), the Superbowl.

I 100% guarantee Al Davis will zombie his butt out of the grave to accept His Ring...

You got confused. Them is the rules in the NFL *before* the new QB in a dress rules..

“....and this rule is to solve what problem, exactly?.........”

Lawsuits will end the NFL and Division I NCAAF within 10 years. This is a probably futile attempt to prevent that.

“And prior to the NFL going under, football will be abolished at the youth/community level, then high school, then college levels.”

Youth football will not exist in 5 years. The owners of the venues will become uninsurable, and that will be that.

I miss having Real Men in football.

All of them today are nancy-boys. Especially the ball-less black chickens.

As a former running back at a low college level I can tell you that it is instinctive to duck your head when a 6’4” 250 pound linebacker is trying to break your neck. Sorta like ducking when you a bullet goes whizzing by.

Like Cowboys Running Back, Emmett Smith, says:

How would he do his job with this rule? Running Backs almost always lead with the helmet.

I’m guessing Rush is on about it because he believes that the people at the very top pushing to change change football don’t really give a damn about football or football players. They hate football. They despise everything it represents. It’s too male. It’s too imperialistic and American. They want it eliminated. So, like gun legislation, they will start small. A lawsuit here. A changed rule there. In the editorial columns of newspapers, in the stories promoted on Yahoo! and AOL, repeat the mantra, ‘football is dangerous’, ‘football is dangerous’, ‘football is dangerous’... Then the Marxists in the local school boards will start suggesting that football is too dangerous for little Johnny and little Leroy to be playing. When some little boy has an accident or dies suddenly on the field they politicians will stand next to his corpse and say, “How many more must be sacrificed to the machine?” Just like gun control. The ones at the top of the gun control movement want the private ownership of all firearms to be a felony. Period. The ones at the bottom may not be thinking that today but when it comes around to it they will say, “Yes, they are probably right” and start calling the snitch-lines to rat out their gun hiding neighbors. Same with the Boy Scouts. The movement to ‘Fundamentally change’ the US ratchets forward.

I’m not too worried about football going away.
It’s making FAR TOO MUCH $$$ at both the pro and college level for that to happen.

Follow the money.
The typical college soccer game draws hundreds of people.
No way are schools giving up that football gravy.

Oh, you mean ‘smear the queer?’

Went to a Catholic school, and that’s what it was called.

I like your analysis, and let me apply the ‘retribution’ lens to the situation.

The teams are owned exclusively by white people. Most of the players are black.

If there were EVER an institution you wanted to wreck in the Obama era, its football.

Talk about retribution - all those white people being sued out of their luxury boxes to free the poor black slaves breaking their asses out there in the hot sun and blowing snow.

I can see Obama loving the downfall of the NFL.
