Hospitals need to take action against the spread of a deadly, antibiotic-resistant strain of bacteria, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The bacteria kill up to half of patients who are infected.
The bacteria, called carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae or CRE, have increased over the past decade and grown resistant to even the most powerful antibiotics, according to the CDC. In the first half of 2012, 200 health care facilities treated patients infected with CRE.
"CRE are nightmare bacteria," CDC director Dr. Tom Frieden said in a statement. "Our strongest antibiotics don't work and patients are left with potentially untreatable infections. Doctors, hospital leaders and public health must work together now to implement CDC's 'detect and protect' strategy and stop these infections from spreading."

Good thing I don’t have nightmares.
It's the only way to deal with a problem like this.
Let me be the first to say:
Bush’s fault!
Sounds as if we’re about to refamiliarize ourselves with the value of silver and gold above and beyond coins and shiney baubles.
CDC is too busy redesigning their HQ with saunas, contemplation and nap rooms.
They have the “gun” agenda on their plate!
Bacteria...shmacteria!
well this will be a convenient excuse to do away with undesirables - who the govt says are undesirables, that is.
The CDC is about one of the only agencies I will defend. They have stayed neutral about guns (in fact, have produced some of the data we pro-gunners use during arguments!) and is one of the only groups I have ever seen that actually CARES about their charter. I contract for them and I routinely see PhD’s and Masters-level people staying late into the wee hours actually working on the science of health.
I want the world to end...but not that way...
“Well, I suggest that Obama seize dictatorial powers immediately, and grab all of our guns.”
“It’s the only way to deal with a problem like this.”

Well, you’re simply being silly, there is a very easily workable solution to the problem. All we need do is print about fifty billion signs and post them in every home, workplace, doctor’s office, hospital etc. BACTERIA FREE ZONE. Hey, you know what? We can add VIRUS FREE ZONE to all those signs at no extra cost, a real twofer.
We need QUARANTINE!! NOW!!! NOW!!. These bodies must be burned and the areas they have occupied BLOW TORCHED!!
From what I could glean from the MSM news readers and from pseudo-experts and other MSM news readers called in for their opinions, if everyone would wash their hands the epidemic would go away immediately. I’m sure that the Black Plague was ended by everyone washing their hands in the Dark Ages.
I had a bronchial infection which basically kept me sick all Winter. The first two anti-biotics had very little effect on it.
I was never hospitalized but was getting pretty sick. Finally my doctor tried another one and it worked. Actually I have been over it for a couple of weeks but have just noticed my chest seems congested again. Sure hope it is not recurring.
I have an even better idea...
OBAMA FREE ZONE
I don’t doubt that Laz, but Obama just assigned them with a gun violence study that will consume their budget. My point was the Zero is turning them into a political arm like NASA with Muslim outreach, The State Dept. always known as “Foggy Bottom”. And let’s be honest, Julie Gerberding (?) got them some pretty nice HQ’s. I am pissed off regarding Lyme’s, Babesiosis, borrelia diseases that they choose to ignore. I truly believe that especially after the East Anglia University/hockey stick Global Warming b/s, Andrew Wakefield etc.
that most science is bought and paid for.
The whole thing makes me ill. I do not doubt for a moment that there are fabulously talented , hardworking people there, the top folks change with each Administration and they always come with a ton of Political/Pharmaceutical connections.
Michael Taylor from Monsanto at the FDA? Yikes!
I have problems with my knees due to an old car accident. I deal with it. Sometimes, yes, aspirin, heating pad, laying around..
Once, my closet hypochondriac husband and I had the flu at the same time, on his insistence, we went to the doctor together. He took his meds all of them. I did partake of the Z pak, but all those other little bottles of stuff, I threw them out.
Why? Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think people take way too many meds. The body can usually take care of itself in regards to non life threatening illness.
I want my body to be strong enough to fight all these drug resistant disease. Perhaps I'm going about it the wrong way? I don't know.
Republicans back in the 90's prohibited any Federal grant to the CDC from being used for research into gun control because they'd gotten so politicized.
If you go to the full article, you’ll see that they’re tiptoeing around saying “quarantine” without using that particular word.
There are all manner of natural antimicrobials, it might be time to become familiar. A kitchen spice rack is full of them if you know how to use them for that purpose. Salt, sugar, pepper, oregano, turmeric, bay leaf, on and on. Essential oil of oregano is a powerful one. Anything used to cure meats or pickle vegetables will kill bacteria, that’s why they work as preservatives with food.
Silver (topical and environmental, not internal), gold and copper can be very effective.
The biggest one, topical or internal, is the most obvious one.
Garlic.
