Could Obama Finally Have Overplayed His Hand
Townhall.com ^ | March 5, 2013 | David Limbaugh

Posted on 03/05/2013 5:25:21 AM PST by Kaslin

Is it possible that Obama's arrogance, personal pettiness, sanctimoniousness and egotism (for starters) could finally be his unraveling? Even the liberal media are starting to notice, but will it last?

Up to this point, they've dutifully played along with his Alinskyite tactics -- converting the office of the presidency into a headquarters for community organizing at a federal level and a position to organize and fund a perpetual campaign against his political opponents instead of governing.

The liberal media share Obama's leftist policy goals and the ends-justify-the-means mentality that accompanies them and have thus far been eager not only to ignore Obama's thuggishness and deceit but also to proactively help him in accomplishing his goals and concealing his chicanery.

But perhaps his willingness to hurt the country to make political points, which until recently they'd overlooked, has finally gotten their attention -- with his brazen lies about the sequester cuts and his release of dangerous criminal illegals onto the streets. I'll not be Pollyannaish in hoping for a sustained liberal-media blowback toward Obama, but these matters have at least caught their attention and inched ever so slightly forward from the back burner. That's something to build on.

Cocky from his re-election and from a string of triumphs in his negotiations with Republicans, Obama calculated he could continue to be as dictatorial and unreasonable as he had been and even ratchet it up a notch and get away with it. He knew he was lying when he said Republicans were currently causing the sequestration because they wouldn't agree to more tax increases. He was the one primarily responsible for the impasse because he had already gotten his tax increases and was still refusing to play ball on the spending and entitlements side -- the only side that can make a difference in solving our debt crisis -- as he always has.

The media didn't call him on that, as flagrantly dishonest as it was. Why should they have? They rarely had before, and they support his quest to punish the successful. Loyalty to the truth hasn't been enough to motivate them to behave like true journalists and just report the news fairly.

But we saw a hint of media dissatisfaction with Obama when reporter Chuck Todd criticized Obama for "ceding the moral high ground" concerning the corrupt influence of money in politics because his campaign arm, Organizing for Action, has been "selling access to the president."

Then veteran reporter Bob Woodward came forward to expose a second category of lies from Obama on the sequestration. Even if some in the liberal media turned on their former Watergate-famed icon, at least others called White House press secretary Jay Carney's hand over this.

It was now obvious that Obama was lying not just about the primary reasons for the gridlock over the sequester cuts but about who authored the idea in the first place. After Obama blatantly lied about this and sent out his minions to do the same, the administration had to grudgingly concede that it had been his idea. Even then, the administration tried to spin its way out of it by misrepresenting that Republicans had agreed to revenue hikes as part of the sequestration.

But amazingly, the spin doesn't seem to be getting much traction for Obama for a change. Perhaps it is because Obama went too far when, like a petulant child, he showed he was willing to hurt the nation to get his way on the sequestration and further damage Republicans.

He went way over the top, even for him, in his promises of gloom and doom concerning essential services he falsely claimed would be cut. Education Secretary Arne Duncan incorrectly claimed that schoolteachers were already being laid off, which even The Washington Post wouldn't let stand. Other liberal outlets came forward to contradict Obama's hysterical claim over pay cuts on Capitol Hill. Even "Saturday Night Live" lampooned Obama's absurd posturing on the sequester cuts.

Journalist Byron York reported that Obama now seems "resigned to the possibility that he cannot win the further tax increases he seeks, and that after enlisting his entire administration in a campaign to frighten Americans about sequestration, the cuts have become a reality that he has to acknowledge." Obama has now admitted that the cuts aren't going to be apocalyptic as he warned.

Obama has outdone himself with his administration's unilateral release of thousands of dangerous criminal illegal immigrants onto the streets of America in order to leverage his sequester arguments and then sending Carney out to grossly misrepresent the scope of this outrage.

I won't hold my breath for a wholesale transformation of the liberal media's attitude toward Obama, but I'm encouraged to see anything at all in that direction and that the political winds seem to be changing, even if slightly so far, against Obama.

Obama always overplays his hand. But he has the media to cover it up.

I wrote in another thread a few days ago that even Helen Thomas was complaining about WH strong-arm tactics regarding a Town Hall event. But that was in 2009; any hope of that having been a seed for press indignation is of course misplaced.

Regarding Obama and his cabinet being called out on the large scale pre-Sequester lying campaign, it remains to be seen whether the result — simply continuing to tell undoubtedly pre-scripted post-sequester lies — will lead to a second calling out by the press.

No, not really. The problem is, B. Hussein, like all petty dictators, never bargains in good faith. Not only that, but he doesn't want to be seen as "governing" the country, because that would lay blame on him when something goes bad. That's why he always backs out of deals, why he always moves the goal posts, why his Consigliere's always threaten people who expose him.

I hope Limbaugh doesn’t really expect the media to begin reporting fairly. Any individual member of the press who has been the least bit critical of Obama will again be as giddy as a schoolgirl the next time The One so much as turns his head their way.

Obama’s act of releasing “thousands of dangerous criminal illegal immigrants onto the streets of America” is oddly reminiscent of the Mariel Boatlift (1980) when Jimmy Carter, the second-worst President in American history, forged an agreement with his buddy, Fidel Castro, which allowed anyone from Cuba to emigrate to the United States. Castro promptly emptied his prisons and asylums, and allowed the dregs of his dregful nation to foist their criminality and insanity on the state of Florida.

While this one didnt go the way of the others (disaster for Republicans) Obama still has two aces in the hole :

1) GOP
2) media

In a few weeks the real deadline comes up, lets see how that goes.

Yeah I’m reading a lot (WaPo, WSJ, etc) about the plans for a Baraqqi “surge” in 2014 to re-capture the House. Converting the (successful) Obama campaign machine for this purpose with monster $$ contributions from wealthy libs.

But I’m not seeing anything from our side.

“release of thousands of dangerous criminal illegal immigrants”

Something worth noting on this: we really don’t know the status or threat coming from these. Napalitano said they weren’t dangerous. Many on our side repeat the mantra that they are. The truth? We don’t know. We don’t have information on who they are, what were the reasons they were detained, what jurisdictions should LE be alerted in, lest they pose a threat etc?

In a way this is more diabolical than knowing. People can feel endangered everywhere, with a generalized sense of dread. All the better, I’m sure, in Obama’s demented mind...

Mysterious happenings to “whistle blowers” and/or “dare to question” types keeps the rest of the press afraid for their lives and their families.

I can tell when a reporter is gushing over O whether it’s real or fear. Practically crying with passion over O tells me that we have a nervous reporter that doesn’t believe what they’re saying.

The press is just upset they didn't get a chance to go on a golf vacation with him and Tiger Woods...

Actually, the press has been complaining about access for awhile now. They were none too pleased to get kicked out or the GOP Governor's meeting last week, eh?

But I do think it is important to comprehend his agencies are taking unprecedented actions to ‘make the apocalypse’ happen. That is where we ALL have to be watchful going forward.

They are taking actions that are overly heavy-handed and that is political terrorism.

Boehner and his fellow RINOs are in no way conservative nor is their intent to do the Will of the People. Don't forget the casting out of conservatives from Boehner's budget committee. Mark Levin calls them BY NAME on this. Limbaugh treads lightly and a lot less forcefully than Levin. Levin nails it!

Neither will I. IMO, the election is over, the MSM got its wishes and got the clown prince back in. They are just sending a notice they made him and can break him so don’t marginalize us. If they were truly changing their tune, they would have backed Atkinson from CBS who was onto the gun running scandal but got no support or the Bengazi fiasco which was and will never be followed to the extent it should have. I think the Press is still saying you (Obama) can P on us but don’t tell the public it is raining by making us look bad or we can turn upon you.

I also doubt Woodward’s move was the call to arms against this guy. He backed off by calling the threat not a real threat. He did not even call the jerk the liar he is.

No, IMOHP there are larger and greater forces at work that will prevent this guy's downfall/embarrass his cause.

FDR overplayed his hand in the 1930's and managed to keep winning. The same for Wilson etc. Truman would have overplayed his hand with his New Deal pt.II but Congress manged to stop him.

Either way, it's "the People" fault by embracing and adaptation to Marxist's economic/cultural hegemony. Plus this "Bush fault" meme has a lot of clueless people conditioned beyond repair. I am not talking about the "free phone" crowd, I am talking about Graduate School MBAs, PHDs, Juris Doctor etc. embrace that propaganda.

Also, millions are their own gods/set of moral codes that make it easier to embrace politicians that pander to how one get their gentiles off and any irresponsibility taken care of that could hamper their lifestyle (Abortion, anti-"discrimination" laws etc). Progress in some people's minds.

But Castro had a different motive and game plan: there were already 10,000 people on the grounds of the embassy, and thousands more were ready to join the protest. Castro emptied the prisons and mental hospitals so that a few thousand criminals and deranged people could discredit the more than 100,000 normal people - families, professional people, and even a large number of significant writers and artists. And guess what, it worked, because even here on FR I read constant references to the criminal element of the Mariel boatlift, which was in fact less than ten percent of the number of refugees who fled the island gulag.
