THE SECOND TEN COMMANDMENTS
Most people are familiar with the Ten Commandments given to Moses on Mount Sinai as recorded in Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:1-21. But have you heard of the second Ten Commandments? The second Ten Commandments are "10 suggestions" of a cardiologist, Steven R. Yarnall, MD, for giving one the edge on being the best you can be. Taking care of ourselves is most often just good, old-fashioned commonsense. But here are Yarnall's "10 Health Commandments" as I found them in a pamphlet put out by the Hope Heart Institute. Thou shalt ...
1. Exercise thy body. There's no need to climb mountains as Moses did, but if you don't use it, you will lose it. A famous physician once wrote, "If exercise came in a pill bottle, it would be the most widely prescribed medicine of all". 2. Exercise thy mind. Again, if you don't use it, you'll lose it. Read. Write. Go back to school. Exchange ideas. Be creative. Be reflective. Learn something new every day. Share what you learn with others. 3. Exercise thy spirit. Read inspirational and/or scriptural books. Don't be afraid to be open and loving. Give, and allow others to give to you. 4. Exercise thy willpower. Examine your habits...the ones you want to develop, and the ones you want to change. Then, set goals and make those changes. 5. Have a happy heart. Laugh. Live. Create. Share surprises. Help others find joy and purpose in their lives. 6. Play. Schedule time for pure play and find ways throughout your day to have fun. 7. Eat, drink, and be merry sensibly. Don't eat or drink or do anything else to excess. Don't smoke cigarettes or use harmful drugs. Don't take stupid chances.
8. Give up guilt, regret, and depression. Let go of the past and move on! Decide what's wrong (not who's wrong) and take action. 9. Fear not the future. The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time. The future's not totally in your control, but if you take care of today, most of the future will take care of itself.
10. Live now. Learn from the past, plan for the future, and live in the present. Love others (and yourself) appropriately now. Look for leaders (living, dead or imagined) who are worthy of admiration and imitate their good qualities. Pursue and preserve healthy relationships; you become like those you are with.
The Ten Commandments were given to Moses as a standard to teach and live by so they would have a long and fulfilling life once they arrived in the promised land. God has given us the gift of life...body, mind, and soul. I want to suggest, then, that if followed, these 10 Health Commandments may have a big impact on how well we live the gift of life which God has given to us. LCDR Diane M. Wilson, CHC, USN

Good morning, E...((HUGS))...hope Bo is feeling better today.
You are the first arrival this morning on the old thread. FR decided, just before posting time, to not load pages or allow posting of threads. Some of us had to change our settings to only 20 comments per page. I think everything is back to normal now.
Have a good Monday.

Theyre Watching
March 4, 2013
Its been several decades since a high school event devastated me. Playing sports was hugely important to me. I zeroed in on basketball and spent hundreds of hours practicing my game. So when I didnt make the varsity team in my last year after being on the team since junior high, I was crushed.
Disappointed and confused, I carried on. I became a stats guy for the team, going to games and keeping track of my friends rebounds and shots as they got within one game of the state championship without me. To be honest, I never thought of how they were viewing my response. I just muddled through. Thats why I was surprised recently to hear that several of my classmates told my brother that they saw in my response a lesson in Christianitya picture of Christ. My point is not to tell you to do as I did, because Im not sure what I did. My point is this: Whether we know it or not, people are watching us.
In Titus 3:1-8, Paul explains the life God enables us to livea life of respect, obedience, and kindness that results from being reborn through Jesus and renewed by the Holy Spirit who has been poured out on us.
As we live a Spirit-guided life, God will show the reality of His presence to others through us.
Dear Father, You know how inadequate I am.
Please equip me through the Spirit to show love
and respect in my life so that others will see
through me and see You.
A Christian is a living sermon whether or not he preaches a word.

Beachie, Beachie,

My weekend was great, spent time at my sister's and had lunch with daughter-girl too!
Cold morning will give way to a nice, sunny day and then the rains return.
Whew, 4 days off and I really need more coffee....
Have a bodacious day!

Good morning Pro ((HUGS))
I’m sure you have left for work but just now getting around to checking pings. Work. And kind of crabby this morning. It was a busy weekend, and young-son is stressing me out - he can be a drama-queen...always something going on. I’m hoping “the switch” will turn on this summer when he turns 35.
I’m happy to hear that your weekend and visit went well. How was the train ride? Huh, 4 days off only spoils one for more!
Rain? The beachy homestead may get rain, or it could be a mix. The system out west will be here on Tues night and most of Wed. Most of the snow will be north & west of the homestead (fingers crossed). I’m sooooo ready for warm weather.
Anyhoo, have a magalicious Monday.

It is a tribute to the men that fought for our freedom and we are so very proud that we had this caliber of men to fight for our rights and our country. ...... The spirit never dies.
