If youre a donor or potential donor to Karl Roves group American Crossroads, I recommend you listen to Mark Levins recent interview with Donald Trump, because they disclosed some long overdue truths that needed to be said.
Trump and Levin made several points that donors, the media, and the political class can no longer ignore and frankly should have picked up on long ago. When you see the facts all laid out, youll be asking yourself the same question as Levin: I would say to the wealthy donors out there, why do you keep donating to him?
The first point Trump makes is exhibit one in the case against Rove and something people should never, ever forget: You know it was really Karl Rove who gave us Obama. Mr. Trump is exactly right. The next time someone says Karl Rove is a political genius, just remember that his disastrous decisions during the Bush Administration paved the way for President Obamas election, Obamacares implementation, and our unsustainable $16 trillion national debt.
The truth is that the only times in politics when the political pendulum swings that far in either direction is when things get really, really awful under the sitting president. What largely caused that political situation was Karl Roves wrongheaded advice to George W. Bush. Lets also be honest about Rove being the architect of Bushs two victories. Barely beating atrocious candidates like Al Gore and John Kerry is not exactly a heavy lift or something to brag about, because he nearly let both get away.

We can't get rid of him fast enough.
Enthusiastic bump!
Get rid of Rove, or find an alternative to the GOP.
Now.
Bush's fault.
You're damned right it is!
Tokyo seems to be about hanging on to the gravy train he built for himself.
Sarah Palin’s line “Good old boys” running politics in Washington DC
Rove’s attempts to alter/improve American politics probably began its journey on the right path. But, like many Republicans who began their journey in the right direction, he came to a fork in the road and made the wrong turn. That is one of the dangers in American politics and the same thing could eventually happen to the Patriot movement unless a great deal of “honest” leadership is exercised.
The only way to get rid of Rove and the other RINOs is to get involved within the party itself and change things. A third party should be our last resort.
I think the Bush royal family has always stood for Big Government. W picked a political adviser who was compatible.
The third point Trump made was perhaps the most devastating: They took $400 million of money that people put up to fight and they made the worst ads Ive ever seen. The hundreds of millions in television ads Crossroads ran during the 2012 election had virtually zero impact. Donors trusted Rove to produce ads that were both innovative and effective and they got neither. Weak ads from one state to the next were placed on television and they failed miserably. $400 million was wasted, Trump went on to say.
I can't stand Karl Rove, but the reason the economy went to crap right before Bush left office was not the fault of political decisions emanating from the White House.
Republicans in congress simply failed to reign in Fannie and Freddie. We saw it coming, they saw it coming, and perhaps the political power wasn't there to stop what eventually happened, but the executive branch shouldn't get all the blame, IMHO.
Rove is totally out of touch with the way politics need to be fought today. He fights the game like it is 1996.
And George Bush gave us Karl Rove.
Thanks, George.
The 2006 elections, when the GOP lost the house and senate were the direct result of insulting the GOP base by being silent about democrat criticism (new tone), and the disastrous attempt to shove the amnesty bill down the throat of the American public, and the lack of any attempt to slow down spending.
The unfortunate consequences were there was no way now to reigh in Fannie and Freddie even if they wanted to. I know it's complex, but there was enough failure in the vision of the Bush/Rove white house to assign plenty of blame to them.
Sometimes the obvious has to be voiced.
Perfectly stated. It's a huge problem we need to overcome.
G.C., you are so absolutely and completely correct!

(Implicit sarcasm tag.)
He was outstanding on Hannity's show this week, too. It would be worth searching YouTube for.
Levin's in a class by himself, as far as political commentators go.
