the reason the economy went to crap right before Bush left office was not the fault of political decisions emanating from the White House.

The 2006 elections, when the GOP lost the house and senate were the direct result of insulting the GOP base by being silent about democrat criticism (new tone), and the disastrous attempt to shove the amnesty bill down the throat of the American public, and the lack of any attempt to slow down spending.

The unfortunate consequences were there was no way now to reigh in Fannie and Freddie even if they wanted to. I know it's complex, but there was enough failure in the vision of the Bush/Rove white house to assign plenty of blame to them.
