Dorner manhunt: Charred human remains found in burned cabin

Charred human remains have been found in the burned cabin where police believe fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner was holed up after trading gunfire with law enforcement, authorities said.

If the body is identified to be Dorner’s, the standoff would end a weeklong manhunt for the ex-LAPD officer and Navy Reserve lieutenant who is believed to be responsible for a string of revenge-fueled shootings following his firing by the Los Angeles Police Department several years ago. Four people have died, allegedly at Dorner’s hands.

The last burst of gunfire Tuesday came after the suspect, attempting to flee law enforcement officials, shot to death a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy and seriously injured another, officials said. He then barricaded himself in a wooden cabin outside Big Bear, not far from ski resorts in the snow-capped San Bernardino Mountains east of Los Angeles, according to police.

Just before 5 p.m., authorities smashed the cabin's windows, pumped in tear gas and called for the suspect to surrender. They got no response. Then, using a demolition vehicle, they tore down the cabin's walls one by one. When they reached the last wall, they heard a gunshot, officials said, and then the cabin burst into flames.

Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said he would not consider the manhunt over until a body was identified as Dorner.

And her first words were*just who’s going to pay for that*. If it were me I would be mighty upset. I also bet to rebuild will be a nightmare for her.

In my perfect world, the “cleaners” at the first house and the guy who got carjacked would get the reward money, then pass some back to the cabin owner and the families of the four victims.

It’s the new 21st century tactic for fomenting a prolonged standoff. You just unload all of the ammo you have on hand into the building in question, then you fire-bomb it to ensure that the job is complete. Pretty insidious tactic if you ask me. I have to admit that dorner was a total whackjob, but death by immolation is wrong on so many levels.

Hey, its a fact Jack, some people DO need killin. Dorner would not be on the top of my list, maybe way up though.

Okay, we'll just let you decide which, from now on. Who needs courts and evidence, and other silly stuff like that anyway.

Good point. I guess he or an accomplice could’ve planted it. I just wish the media would address that, the issue of 2 wallets, because it makes them look silly. But then again, they usually do look silly.

That's why we use the term "first responders".

We now have two types of firemen. Use of the term "fireman" is now ambiguous.

It could have been an overheated gun barrel.

” When they reached the last wall, they heard a gunshot, officials said, and then the cabin burst into flames.”

No it didn’t they set it on fire. Total destruction of private property and burning the guy alive. I don’t have much sympathy for Dorner but this is not correct police procedure especially to take down one person. It was insane.

"The guy is good, gotta give him that. I wouldn’t pass it by him to pull off some kind of James Bond switcheroo..."

So, you obviously fall into the camp of : "He's so brilliant that he fouled the getaway boat's propeller with the mooring line, on purpose."

Thanks for the audio link:

“Burners deployed and we have a fire.”

Seems pretty obvious.

"The cops are not yet Judge Dredd, where they can determine guilt and carry out the determined sentence on the spot. "

Cops executing cop killers in the field is not exactly a new phenomenon.

I don’t think I would want to rebuild a cabin in the same spot.

I see no reason why the cabin had to be burnt down. It was innocent.

Will LAPD be burning down every house from now on where a criminal hides out?

I don’t think I would have a problem rebuilding on the same spot. Property is at a premium up in Big Bear. I figure any bad vibes would have gone up in the heat...the ground purified as it were.

Oh and as far as further acts of pyrotechnics by LAPD, who the heck knows. I thought it was a little heavy handed.
