As McIntyre and Dellairo continued to batter Williams and Ramos, Williams broke free and ran to his bedroom, where he armed himself with a .22-caliber handgun equipped with a laser sight. Williams shot McIntyre in the leg then followed him, Dellairo, and the female out of the apartment. While outside the apartment, Dellairo lunged at Williams with a knife. In response, Williams fired off a couple surprised rounds, which struck Dellairos hip. As the three fled, they entered a vehicle, possibly with a second female. Williams fired two rounds that impacted the vehicles trunk in an effort to aid police in identifying the vehicle.
Police caught up with the female, McIntyre and Dellairo at St. Joseph Hospital, where McIntyre was arrested. Dellairo was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he died of his injuries. The investigation is ongoing and police have yet to release the names of the two females believed to be involved.
Whats the moral to this story? Aside from surmising that a .22-caliber pistol makes a better weapon than an electric guitar, we can deduce that any firearm is capable of turning the tide of a deadly encounter. Of course, without proper training and the will to win, your firearm, regardless of caliber, will be of little benefit. What are your thoughts?

All guns are powerful. No one is going to volunteer to be shot, even by a .22 short.
Some guns are more powerful than others, but almost every story I have heard about a .22 shows that it is often more than enough to win a fight.
The ability to practice frequently and build up proficiency is a great virtue.
Many of us will practice frequently with a .22 and carry something more powerful.
Most 16 year old girls can easily master a 9 mm, but starting with a .22 and only picking up the 9 mm after a fair amount of practice is a very sensible thing to do.
When in doubt as to which gun to buy, get both of them.
There are plenty of show and tell videos of the Ruger Sr22 on YouTube and any other weapon you can think of. Plenty of Pro comments on the SR 22 it would not be the first choice of most, but they don't downplay the effectiveness of the 22. There
is effective and more effective, but effective is better than none. I picked up one for my wife yesterday, haven't been to shoot it yet, but it feels great in the hand, much smaller than a nine or 45. I did almost buy a Tarus nine for $350.00, the Ruger should come in at about $325.00 new or $500.00 used not kidding look on eBay :)>
The call to the Sheriff would be something like, "Reporting attempted theft of my tractor and other items from my shed. BOLO for a white pickup last seen heading west, with up to four flat tires, and with the sides and tailgate decorated with at least a dozen .22 caliber holes. Things here are secure, so I suggest you concentrate on apprehending the criminal trespassers in said vehicle first."
(BTW, has anyone ever tried to drive on four flat tires? It doesn't work. I found that out when punks in Phoenix slashed all four of the tires on my rental car. My first impression when it didn't move was, "Is the transmission blown?")
Not sure 22 will penetrate a tire.....I’ll have to test that theory myself.
They will — both sidewalls...
Well how about at 50 years? 100 yd?
That or the bullet followed the inside of the pelvis and “rattled around” inside his abdomen — making hash of his insides...
Most 50 year 22 ammo is too tired to penetrate a tire. The ammo will just stare angrily at the tire and cuss.
“He has (as far as I know) minor brain damage but is otherwise normal.”
He’s a Democrat?
If, according to the report, he hit him in the leg, then twice in the hip, how did this kill him?
A 22 won’t penetrate very far...about 5-10 inches, which is well under most handgun ammo.

But an 8 shot revolver or 10-shot semi-auto can make 8-10 holes in pretty short order, and do so accurately. A Ruger 10/22 is light, easy to learn & shoot, and would make lots of 5-10” holes.
Missing with a 357 doesn’t do any good, so it depends on how much a person is willing to practice and what they feel comfortable shooting. I’ve never met a person who wasn’t comfortable shooting a 22...met lots who sucked with a 45 or 357.
The shooting took place at 9am, and he was dead by “the afternoon”, so a minimum of three hours. This likely means it didn’t hit the artery, but gave him some decent internal bleeding.
Perhaps not, but they will see the light, feel the heat and hear the thunder and maybe decide to go else where.
A 357 puts on a very impressive display when fired, even more so if fired indoors.
The best argument I’ve heard for using a .22 for defense came down to four points:
— Any gunshot wound is going to hurt like hell, so even a .22 “decoration” will make the perp quickly reconsider the error of his folly.
— Muzzle climb isn’t bad, so a .22 can be quickly brought back onto the target for a second or further shot. That can make a huge difference!
— Ammo is cheap, so you can afford lots of practice. For the cost of 50 rounds of something bigger, you can buy 500 rounds of .22LR.
— Most .22 handguns are pretty small, making them easily concealable.
Look for a Smith 351 PD. .22 Mag, 11 ounces, and with the new Hornady Critical Defense ammo, you can get 9+” of penetration out of a 2” barrel.

300 yard penetration test of .22 LR.
4 layers of denim into meat.
Hmmm, looked it up. Priced at over $600 I don’t think I want one. I have a little NAA five shot single action with 1 5/8” barrel as a ‘boot gun’. Can’t see spending that kind of money to get two more rounds and double action. I’ll keep looking at the gun shows to pick something up used. I would also like to have a three inch barrel on it if I spring for something new. I’ve wanted a PMR 30, but they’ve been scarce and pricely too. My CCW is a Bersaa 9mm UC Pro, with fifteen round back up mag. I convert the ‘inexpensive’ promags for Taurus 92s into extras for the Bersa. My carry back up is a MecGar for the Beretta 92 which I dremeled to perfection.
