According to a background briefer provided by the White House, President Barack Obama is asking doctors to help deal with guns. Here's the relevant passage:
PRESERVE THE RIGHTS OF HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS TO PROTECT THEIR PATIENTS AND COMMUNITIES FROM GUN VIOLENCE: We should never ask doctors and other health care providers to turn a blind eye to the risks posed by guns in the wrong hands.
Clarify that no federal law prevents health care providers from warning law enforcement authorities about threats of violence: Doctors and other mental health professionals play an important role in protecting the safety of their patients and the broader community by reporting direct and credible threats of violence to the authorities. But there is public confusion about whether federal law prohibits such reports about threats of violence. The Department of Health and Human Services is issuing a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits these reports in any way.

That’s what I did years ago when asked by Dr. in CA. Said it didn’t have anything to do with my health, and I’ve been warning people about healthcare being used for gun control ever since. Guess now if you refuse to answer they will automaticaly put you down as crazy.

Of course. The health care system is now an agent of our government now. Why would this happen? They also are going to require all our records to be stored electronically...what could possibly go wrong?
No. That will be recorded, too.
There is only one option. Drs are now gov’t functionaries. Treat them as such...The State.
That's the real problem with this approach. 0bamaCare will get conservatives labeled and reported.

They tried this sh*t back in the late 90s with Pediatricians, figuring little kids wouldn’t lie.
Backlash from parents was swift, speedy, and it stopped very quickly.
Hit them in their wallets as well. Find another doctor, and keep looking until you find one who is on our side, then network with other Gunnies to help the guy out and send business his way.
The other side has their networks, and we have ours.

Many doctors won’t ask. Mine is so distraught over the Obamacare crap that he will make it a point NOT to ask. And many doctors are NRA members and hunters-shooters them selves.
That’s a good plan, but I am seeing complaints from Doctors that they are being coerced out of private practice into becoming employees of hospitals and then under their rules.
This is about as relevant as, “Do you have incandescent light bulbs in your home?”
Why don’t they force them to ask something meaningful which might protect children. “Are you a pedophile?” Wait, that’s the next protected class...
Just another answer to the question why can’t I find a Dr named Sam, or Bill, or Fred etc etc etc...
Rush pointed out the liability a Dr would have if it was ‘proved’ someone had visited him just prior to his going out and creating a scene.
So, if they don’t want all 12 barrels on the Fed on him he will have to err on the side of caution.
If you have the flu and say I feel terrible. If this doesn’t get better no telling what I will do.
Now it will be up to the Dr to analyze if you were bemoaning or suicidal or worse.......
Keep in mind that any doctor can report you as a danger and the sheriff will come by to collect your firearms.
You can’t even go to court to fight it.

I will ask the Doctor if he has a warrant.
Further, I will tell my RN wife that it is not her place nor responsibility to ask patients any questions about gun ownership, ammo storage, etc. She will defer to the Doctor to ask those questions. Therefore, she will not be held accountable for not having asked those questions when some nut-case goes off with a weapon.
