Colin Powell is NOT a Republican. If a chicken calls itself a cow, is the chicken a cow? Of course not. Powell appeared on Meet the Press with David Gregory on Sunday and sounded like he just attended the Nancy Pelosi Summit of Anti-Conservative Talking Points and Race Baiting.
Powell referenced Sarah Palin and John Sununu, two conservative patriots, as being racist. He said Palins use of the phrase shuckin and jivin is racist. He said Sununus description of the President as lazy is racist. I am half-tempted to check out my local library to see if it has a book listing all the racist terms conservatives are not allowed to use. In my wildest imagination, I dont think I could have thought that these terms were even remotely racist.
Powell also said that you cant go around saying We dont want to have a solid immigration policy...we are going to make it hard for these minorities to vote as they did in the last election. I wonder if he thinks the Democrat plan for amnesty and open borders is a solid immigration policy. He went on to say theres also a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party. What do I mean by that? What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities. I will agree with him in this sense: Im sure there are some Republicans who look down on minorities. Im also sure that there are some Democrats who look down on minorities and some Independents, Green Party members, and Socialists that look down on minorities.
He also couldnt contain himself and had to take a shot at so-called birthers and questioned why the Republican leaders allow that type of talk. First of all, Colin, Republicans allow ALL types of talk because we believe in freedom of speech. Secondly, there are only three Constitutional requirements to become President: the person must be at least 35 years old, have lived in the United States for at least 14 years, and be a natural-born citizen. My parents had to produce a birth certificate for me to go to kindergarten! Is it so extreme to ask a Presidential candidate, someone who could potentially be the leader of the free world, to provide evidence as to his or her eligibility as defined by the law, namely our Constitution?
Colin, the reason racism still exists is partially because people like yourself who constantly bring up the issue will not allow racism to die out. You are only relevant unfortunately whenever you say something controversial, which is very sad because I respect your military service and you have real talents and abilities to offer if you wanted to go that route. Yes, the Republican Party has been splintered a bit and is facing some identity problems. I think Republicans have identified another problem: Your rhetoric.
is this a satire, because it certainly sound like one. It makes Colin sound like the racist actually, not those he accused of being one
Powell should have been kicked out of the Army for his participation in the cover-up of the My Lai massacre.
He is a liberal who remains Republican so he can further destroy the Republican party from within.
OF COURSE Powell is no Republican. He only called himself a “Republican” to be a novelty item and ingratiate himself with the Reagan Administration and advance his career.
Powell is another gift to the American people from GHWB.
It’s simple, Colin Powell cannot stand any criticism of anyone who is not white. By Powell’s lights, I just made a racist remark.
He goes out of his way, and has done for some time to distance himself from the GOP.
Why NOT just be a democrat? No harm in that. It's at least honest.
And BTW, if I didn't know Colin Powell was black, and I saw him in person I'd actually think he was some white guy.
I wouldn't know he was black, except that he self-identifies as such
Not taking up for Powell at all, but given the situation, most of the upper level would have had to go with him. Including Westmoreland.
It was a strange war with strange circumstances.
I am assuming you mean affirmative action because even a drunk wouldn’t have picked Powell for anything
Heh. Unlikely, since I'm white and wasn't old enough to drive back then. (we did have a class trip to DC back in 1994 though)
>> Good call. You were smart for a kid. But then it was a kid who saw the Emperors new clothes for what they were. <<
I'll give you one better. My dad met Colin Powell wayyy back in 1969, when they were both stationed in Vietnam. Apparently they interacted for about 3 days together on some base, and my dad tells me that nobody thought much of it at the time since Powell was an unknown army major back then. I asked him what he thought of Powell, and he told me "Not Much." I get the impression it wasn't a positive experience.
The misslemen didn't have any real interaction with the brass.
Apparently Gen. Lightner was a big wheel at the time, and even has his own wikipedia entry.
“The Mole”
“Colin Powell is No Republican. Hes not even much of an American. Colin Powell is No Republican or a patriot either. Colin Powell is not a Man.”
A little understanding in order here. Powell is a half White British West Indian. It took years for him to learn how to say shuckin and jivin so that he could land an interview on Meet the Press as a credible victim of race baiting.
“I could never figure Colin Powell. What exactly does he have in common with the republican party?
He goes out of his way, and has done for some time to distance himself from the GOP.
Why NOT just be a democrat? No harm in that. It’s at least honest.”
I think we all know the answer to this question. He has more influence pretending to be a African American Republican which agrees nearly entirely with the Democrats while bashing his own party. If he were a democrat, he would just be one of many therefore his influence and power would be much smaller. I think Mark Levin explained this once
Colin Powell was “manufactured” to play a political role. His entire career has been smoke and mirrors.
It all depends on your definition of a “Republican”. By some definitions, Pluto is not a planet, but a dwarf planet or a plutino. By some definitions, Powell is a moral dwarf and spitino.
As the years go by Col. Gritz's predictions continue to unfold like a row of falling dominos. History will prove that the Colonel nailed it, dead center.
COLIN POWELL Despite appearances, impressive titles and knighthood by the British Crown, Colin Powell (63) is little more than a T-ball player in a fast-pitch game. Remember what happed to the last spring-butt-dog-robber, Al Haig? As Kissingers "Deep-throat," Haig went from Colonel to four-stars faster than cameras could photograph his promotions (I was Pentagon chief of special activities on the Army General Staff at the time). Over all other contemporaries, Haig was appointed Vice-Chief of Staff, and then Secretary of State by Reagan obviously without knowing he wasnt "Number Three." Colin Powell isnt much better. As Washingtons "inside-insider" Secretary of State, Powell will probably perform as an Uncle Tom "NUF." Powell is likened by the spin-doctors to Eisenhower in greatness as a military leader and potential president (poles said he could have beaten Dole for the 1996 Republican nomination), but what would have happened if Ike would have allowed Hitler to stay in power after the Nazis were driven back within the borders of Germany? What happened in Somalia where Americans military was killed and dragged through the streets of Mogadishu before withdrawing in dishonor, because Powell would supply them with proper combat power? As an Army officer, Powells raters considered him the consummate "team-player." His blind loyalty was well demonstrated as an Americal Division assistant chief of staff for operations when a young soldier wrote a letter to General Creighton Abrams complaining that it was routine in the Americal to murder innocent civilians, and cited the MyLai incident in 1968, wherein more than 300 innocent infants, small children, women and old men were machine-gunned in a ditch. Powell did his best to whitewash the accusation, but it burst upon the militarys honor like a rotten egg. Returning from Vietnam, Powell attended GW University and was awarded a White House fellowship where he worked for Frank Carlucci and Casper Weinberger. In 1977, under Jimmy Carter, Powell became an aide to Sec-Def Harold Brown (while Richard Armitage served as an Assistant Secretary to account for our MIAs and POWs, and I worked as Congressional Relations chief in the same International Security Agency office). Powell was then transferred to the Energy Department in 1979 (my POW reports were diverted there as a cover while Carter and Vance refused to recognize the existence of living Prisoners of War). Powell went back to the Pentagon as an Aide to his former White House bosses, Secretary of Defense Carlucci and then Weinberger, along with Armitage his best friend. It was Powell who smoothed the wrinkles out when the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut was destroyed. Powell was part of the illegal shipments of missiles to Iran in 1986. When National Security Advisor Bud MacFarlane, in his disgrace, attempted suicide, Carlucci was his replacement and Powell was the deputy. In November 1986, Tom Harvey, military assistant to VP George Bush instructed me to infiltrate Heroin overlord Khun Sas Tiger Camp in the Golden Triangle of Burma to confirm the presence of U.S. POWs. At 3:40 pm, 21 March 1987, Powell received a call from Harvey concerning an on-going effort to rescue U.S. POWs. Powell stated: "We still believe it is not wise... after 14-years they (Vietnamese) have denied live Americans....if they were to produce live people, can you imagine what will be asked for?" Our abandoned heroes were quietly disposed of in shallow graves! In late 1987, "team-player" Powell was appointed the National Security Advisor by Ronald Reagan. President George Bush selected Powell to be Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs. Admiral Eugene Carroll said it best: "Looking at General Powells career record, it is clear that he was picked out early for a more important role in life than getting his boots dirty." Powell proved his political value in 1992 when Senator Jesse Helms declassified and released a comprehensive CIA report on our POWs which greatly embarrassed the Communist. Desperate to save their face, Powell used the Pentagon to mastermind a way out for our enemies. A secret memo was sent to Hanoi on 7 October 1992 advising them to "Begin with a public announcement by your government, noting that for the last several months, Vietnamese officials have embarked on countrywide unilateral efforts to recover archives, records, photographs, and remains of unaccounted for Americans." Several weeks later the words were parroted back by the Communists, while President Bush thrilled at a "significant and real breakthrough," and bragged about Vietnams "unprecedented cooperation." Today, Powell sits at his "Foggy Bottom" State Department Building talking daily with friend Armitage about his chances to become the first black president in 2008, even as he is now the first black Secretary of State, and was the first black JCS Chairman. As an Uncle Tom, whose time has come, Powell wont be at the helm of Americas foreign policy. Second-timer, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld will likely keep our military over committed in UN and coalition overseas "peacekeeping." Colin Powell, Bushs first appointment, was unanimously approved by the U.S. Senate without even token opposition. http://www.bogritz.com/vignettes32.htm
Has Conlin EVER said anything bad about Democrats, while not criticizing Republicans in the same sentence?
