I could never figure Colin Powell. What exactly does he have in common with the republican party?

He goes out of his way, and has done for some time to distance himself from the GOP.

Why NOT just be a democrat? No harm in that. It's at least honest.

And BTW, if I didn't know Colin Powell was black, and I saw him in person I'd actually think he was some white guy.

I wouldn't know he was black, except that he self-identifies as such

I think we all know the answer to this question. He has more influence pretending to be a African American Republican which agrees nearly entirely with the Democrats while bashing his own party. If he were a democrat, he would just be one of many therefore his influence and power would be much smaller. I think Mark Levin explained this once
