Eight days after the massacre of 20 first-graders at Sandy Hook Elementary, where each child was shot with a Bushmaster .223, The Nations Gun Show, the biggest east of the Mississippi, opened.
A line already snaked around the building shortly after the three-day event began at 3 p.m., and the parking lot was jammed at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Va., wrote Justin Jouvenal of the Washington Post:
With an AK-47 slung over one shoulder, Marco Hernandez offered one word when asked why he was in the overflow crowd at the gun show.
Obama, he said. I wouldnt be here if it werent for the possible gun ban.
And this is the story across America since Sandy Hook.
The weapon most in demand at Chantilly?
The AR-15 black rifle, a version of which was used to slaughter the innocents in Newtown. At Chantilly, their price doubled in hours to $1,800. Gun stores have sold out their inventory.
Yet for weeks after Sandy Hook, journalists and politicians from the president to Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who were making the case for a new assault-weapons ban, dominated the airwaves. Those calling for reinstatement of the ban that was in effect from 1994 to 2004 had the national audience almost entirely to themselves.
The National Rifle Association was largely silent. Not until nine days after Newtown did the NRAs Wayne LaPierre appear on Meet the Press to be subjected to hostile interrogation.
Yet, from the record gun sales in December, and 2012 there were 16.8 million calls to the FBI for background checks for gun purchases last year the elites have lost the argument with the audience that counts. They have failed to convince those who buy guns.

Really? Then how do you propose to ever use them, even in "legitimate" self defense? Doing so and getting discovered would immediately make you a criminal in the eyes of the state. One will be looking at major felony time, multiple felonies if you own multiple weapons or large cap mags. Don't think for a second such draconian penalties won't be applied in any new gun control/confiscation laws if passed. They will gladly lock you up and throw away the key on your troublemaker's body!
Also, one must assume eventually someone will rat you out if they suspect you own an illegal weapon - or even if they are not sure but hold a grudge or seek a reward. How many people right now know you own a weapon? Do you safely trust them all?
In the Soviet Union, every neighborhood and apartment block had their own government informants who were everywhere and would turn even their own mother in for a crust of bread, a reward, or favor from the state.
That's where this all is heading.
Amen to that. I’m not itching for the fight, but if it comes fight I will.
Thanks for the ping.
That’s a great line!!!
“Stand Up and be Counted, or line up and be numbered!”
I have been predicting it since the 70s. It has not happened yet, but I am as convinced as ever, that it will happen. That was one reason I stayed in the military for 20 years. I figured the best place to be during a civil war, was in the military. That is the 64 dollar question. What will the military do during the next civil war?
Maybe you haven't thought this through, quite.
"Major felony time" would mean the rest of my life in prison--no hope of getting out alive. I'm a great grandpa, but if you're younger, what makes you think you would either--I don't care if you're twenty five.
"Prison" would be the equivalent of reeducation/extermination camps, if you recall Obama's mentor Bill Ayres saying they'd probably have to "eliminate about 25 million" people who could not be reeducated.
Nope.
That dog won't hunt.
I would rather die a free man than be a prisoner for the rest of my life.
If the fools push it that far, I'll use them resisting tyranny.
We're not in a situation where we can just hope they'll go away, any more than the old model of just behaving yourself if the plane is hijacked is going to get you home alive.
If the issue is pushed, we're going to have to fight with every fiber of our being, we, too, will have to pledge our lives, fortunes, and sacred honor....or we'll be dead anyway or slaves.
I’M not Jewish but I stand with you My FRiend. I will not go to one of obama’s camps alive.
You just let them know, MY FRiend.
Actually, as a grandfather myself, I have thought it through and I do not like what I see.
My major point is once guns are made illegal and a major felony, millions of good, honest, patriotic American citizens will become newly minted criminals because they won't comply. At that point, they become prey of the law and unknown informers who may be former friends, neighbors, relatives, or whomever is looking for government favor or is on their side.
It will be hard to passively hide with formerly unknown weapons if they think you have them and come to collect them. The SWAT teams will smash down your door and ruin your house in a destructive search if they even suspect you have contraband (look at the WOD). And like the WOD, because you have illegal contraband, your home and assets are up for forfeiture. You may end up in jail and your now penniless family may end up on the street. Remember, with the Obamacare precedent, the government now has direct access to your bank accounts as well.
With your general comments, I can't argue. It is a nasty choice facing all of us if they get their way and pass these draconian and unConstitutional laws in almost any form. There is hardly a thing they lust to do that is anything but pure bad.
This will not be the America you and I grew up with and love and know.
OK no.
Actually I was not intending to smear Pat Buchanan, though it appears I may have.
I was posting what I supposed was mixed support for Buchanan.
Emphasis on support. Not on mixed. Just trying to provide some balance was all.
It appears I may have not presented the right balance.
I do not have a problem with Pat Buchanan.
And after that starts, the reprisals will begin--not that anyone wants that--but because without them, there will be no deterrent to being an informant.
Before no one would even consider being an informant, nor act on that information, that will get very, brutally, ugly--it will have to.
That isn't the America I grew up in, either. I have said the Second American Revolution will not be anything like the first. It will more closely resemble the Terror.
He says it out of a programmed reflex, most likely before ever reading the article. It makes him feel like he knows something special and insightful that the rest of us rubes haven’t picked up on.
I have learned over the years to ignore the first several responses after an article, because most of the time they are from people who read the headline or saw who the author was and then quickly posted their meaningless quip.
I tend to agree with you .
Hope you don't mind if I, um, borrow that line.
Odumbi will have to purge the Military before he tries a gun grab. Watch for it.
