Democratic Illinois Rep. Danny K. Davis told The Daily Caller that President Obama should have the power to raise the nations debt ceiling without congressional approval, citing the example of President Abraham Lincoln issuing the Emancipation Proclamation as a good use of presidential authority.
Sometimes when weve gotten great answers is when presidents have had enough authority to take some actions, Davis told TheDC on Capitol Hill Friday. I mean, remember that we just celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, and if Abraham Lincoln had not had the power, authority and the will to make that decision, we may have gone on with the war that was going to last several additional years and much longer, and thousands and thousands of people could have and would have, in all probability, lost their lives.

Why have a debt ceiling if anyone can raise it on a whim?

Anybody think this buffoon would say BS like this if there was a Republican in the White House? This clown is sick.

Would be fine and dandy except that those powers are enumerated in the constitution to the US House of Representatives.

Feel free to amend The Constitution. Then your Boy King can use his Caesar powers and declare himself a savior.
Keep using your 1st amendment to blow people away with your fallow intellect.

EP freed the slaves only in the Confederate States that had seceded from the union. No controlling legal authority to enforce it other than the war in progress.

It’s like running out the door with your mama’a pocketbook.
You may have fun spending it now, but your butt is going to be sore before too long writing checks your a$$ can’t cash.
Add this to the America 2013 STUCK ON STUPID ping list.

The EP didnt do a thing. It effectively kept England from entering the War on the side of the south, which may have been the main reason for its issuance.
