Truth is, retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf didn't care much for his popular "Stormin' Norman" nickname.
The seemingly no-nonsense Desert Storm commander's reputed temper with aides and subordinates supposedly earned him that rough-and-ready moniker. But others around the general, who died Thursday in Tampa, Fla., at age 78 from complications from pneumonia, knew him as a friendly, talkative and even jovial figure who preferred the somewhat milder sobriquet given by his troops: "The Bear."

Now there brings back really great GOP memories, a Republican led war that was popular and obvious victory.
Early 1991 when the military surprised everyone who was worried and pessimistic with an easy victory. Norman was like a hero like Patton in that, so confident. so right.
It went to hell a few years after that (nothing to do with him) .
RIP Sir. It was an honor.
RIP General. You done good.
Loved this guy. Weary from losing the good guys here on earth when things are so bad. :(
A good man and the last of America’s real generals. He was the real deal, not a Petraeus, or McChrystol type that would be just as happy working on a corporate board, or at some university.
And Stormin’ Norman ran America’s last war with things like battleships bombarding the enemy with 16 inch, F-4s flying SEAD, OV-10s instead of drones, artillery prep before attacks, B-52s carpet bombing with iron bombs three times a day, for weeks at a time,,, Daisy cutters being dropped over enemy concentrations “just because”. And oh yeah, it was the last war with Bob Hope showing up.
After Norman left, the pussies took over. Rest in peace sir.

Huh? Is it too soon to say he was awesome, the last of the real generals, and will be missed? Or is it too soon to relay a stiry as to how he answered a child’s letter? Get a grip.
I was thinking about him earlier this evening.
At one of the press conferences, he played a clip and said something like “and here is the luckiest man in Iraq...”
The clip shows a truck crossing a bridge over a deep ravine.
Just before the missile hit that blasted the bridge to smithereens!

Fantastic leader! I admire the fact that when he retired he didn’t try to capitalize on his success and favorability, but just quietly retired to be with his family and left politics to others.
I watched CNN live coverage as much as possible after getting home from work each day.
It was shameful the way the Colin Powell would frequently show up and try to claim the limelight for the successes planned and executed by Gen. Norman S. .....That’s when I began despising Powell and he’s done nothing since then to change my mind.
Oh God bless him, he served his country well! He’s like a modern Gen. Patton. Then there’s his former boss in the hospital; hopefully he’ll pull through, now!
General Swartzkoff is one of the few American Generals that can claim to have won a war. The list is short, Washington, Scott, Grant, Pershing, Ike, and McArthur. He clearly ranks with these men in our history.

Us putting troops in Saudi arabia was the justification used for 9/11
If we had let Saddam keep Kuwait, he would have threatened the Saudis and prevented the Saudis giving money to train Wahabbis all over the world (he would have grabbed the money for himself) and Saddam would have gone back to his real aim -- to kick the living s*** out of the Iranis
With the oil money, he could have done this, slaughtering thousands of Irani Shia fanatics (like he did in the Iran-Iraq war)
It also meant that we started paying money and attention to the Pakis again (due to Afghanistan) instead of them just breaking up.
In hindsight, we should have stayed the heck out of that -- GWI leads directly to 9/11, GWII and the Afghanistan involvement.
I remember during Desert Storm he showed the video of what he described as the “luckiest man in Iraq”. It was of a US missle fired I belive from aircraft taking out a bridge on the main supply highway from Kuwait back up into Iraq. An Iraqi millitary supply truck just made it across a bridge when the missle hit the bridge and took it out in a giant explosion.
