Jeld-Wen Inc., Oregon's largest private company, plans to open a North American headquarters in North Carolina, contradicting denials in September.
Jeld-Wen's global headquarters will remain in Klamath Falls, where the door-and-window manufacturer was founded 52 years ago. The company plans to add at least 142 jobs in Charlotte, N.C., during the next two years -- some of them from Oregon -- with an average annual payroll of $13.4 million plus benefits.

“Isnt North Carolinas corporate tax higher than Oregon or Georgia ?”
Probably, but its a right to work state and we offer lots of perks to avoid the taxation just for moving here. And they are moving to Charlotte, so there are lots of banks down the street if needed.
Jeld-Wen does a little bit of everything, which keeps them very competitive.
Such an ‘exit tax’ will never survive a challenge in court over interstate commerce freedom.
“...but its a right to work state,”
I think this may be increasingly important to American industry during the second term of the Obama regime. Look for the union thugs to continue stepping up their strikes, threats, and demands for above market pay and benefits, with the help of the Obama administration and liberal federal district court judges. Having manufacturing facilities in a right to work state is your best hedge if you happen to also have manufacturing in a non-rtw state.
Yeah, that's the answer nowadays. Treat business like sh*t till they leave. Then trot out the "retention" efforts. Give 'em some tax breaks that all the other businesses who stay will have to pay.
The French economist, Frederic Bastiat, used to talk about the "seen" and the "unseen". Everyone sees this company setting up operations in Caroline, no one, though, sees all the businesses that just quietly shut down.
Welcome to Charlotte
Hung white?
I’m not surprised that they had no comment. They wisely trusted neither the state government, nor the media.
Were I them, if asked for a comment, I would have sent the link for the video of Eduard Khil’s song “Trololo”.

Thanks, but only my job moved east. I stayed in California. I met some nice folks from there during the transition. The guy who replaced me is actually from S.C. He assured me that South Carolina is way better than North Carolina. Another guy, however, who is from North Carolina, said that is incorrect and N.C. is superior. Anyway, they’re all working in the NASCAR building downtown.
I’ve lived in both states. SC has better tax rates.
Columbia, SC was about the last place I wanted to move to. But I loved it there and left kicking and screaming.
you should be correct on the ‘exit tax’ not surviving....but this is what we thought about the Obamacare mandate...it should not have survived...but it did.
white rhymes with quite
Sorry about that! The autocorrect on my Kindle Fire strikes again!
