Jeld-Wen Inc., Oregon's largest private company, plans to open a North American headquarters in North Carolina, contradicting denials in September.
Jeld-Wen's global headquarters will remain in Klamath Falls, where the door-and-window manufacturer was founded 52 years ago. The company plans to add at least 142 jobs in Charlotte, N.C., during the next two years -- some of them from Oregon -- with an average annual payroll of $13.4 million plus benefits.

They make fine windows, and doors too if I’m not mistaken,
Welcome to NC.
Directive 10-289 will put an end to this!
Is “Right to Work” an issue here??? High taxes??? Goofy environmental regulations??? Hmmmm????
Or, the ‘Exit Tax’ that the Einsteins in California are trying to put in place to penalize those that flee
The bOregonian should be thrilled they ran another evil private company out of the state.
Merry Christmas
Yes they do. I’ve hung white a few of their slab and prehung doors, and am always pleased with the product.
Hmmm. This might be the start of something here,,,,
I opened up a link to my northwest hometown newspaper and learned that a major sawmill voted by 80% to decertify. Two paper mills in that town, that had closed, re-opened as non union shops.
This area had been the center of the wood worker union movement (e.g. Wobblies, IWA) for over a 100 years.
It is an anti-business state.
Hobby Farms magazine had a letter from a reader in Oregon who stated he was moving out of Oregon because that state’s government was anti-farmer.
I think it’s a good thing that the states are self-selecting free vs socialist.
I am surprised as it was very recently that this company was in dire financial straights, and was not expected to survive.
I misread that as average annual rainfall
I love Jeld-Wen products. I have quite a few of their windows and doors. Fine quality for a stock product, and zero flaws or installation hassles, even for a lady like me who doesn’t have a lot of strength or skill.
My former employer beat the exit tax by moving all corporate jobs (including mine) from Salinas CA to Charlotte NC in August.
No one can be sure these days, but I am pretty confident that for any State to levy a tax on anyone seeking to move to any other State would do violence to the Constitution.
I redid our house with some of their windows last year.
The company found that the windows they produced in Oregon kept warping to the left.
Isn’t North Carolina’s corporate tax higher than Oregon or Georgia ? Jeld-Wen Chief Administrative Officer Ron Saxton told the Business Journal in September that expanding the company’s presence in the south will allow it to better serve two of its largest customers, Atlanta-based Home Depot and North Carolina-based Lowe’s.
Reasonably accurate bio of company founder.

Darn it, I was hoping we were going to get them in SC. Congrats to NC, well done.
