Capitol Hill reporters on Twitter writing Speaker Boehner has dropped Plan B fiscal cliff vote tongiht after revolt from House Republican caucus. House will recess until after Christmas.
After raucus closed dooor House GOP meeting, Boehner says House has already passed bills to cut spending and taxes to avert fiscal cliff and the ball is the court of the Senate and President Obama.
How so?
What is there about increasing taxes across-the-board and reducing spending in one area -- defense -- will do anything to reduce the size of government.
Seems to me that government's share of the GDP just went up!
I want to go over the cliff, too. Forget taxes. They shouldn’t go up in a recession, and blah, blah, blah. They’re going to raise taxes anyway, the hidden ones. Inflation gives the feds most of their filthy lucre. At least, at least! the “cliff” gives us some cuts.
You don’t think taxes were going up for everyone anyway? Wake up! There’s a reason it’s not called the monetary cliff. They control the money supply and will continue on as they have been. Whether or not we extend the 2001 rates is tiddlywinks.
I figured there would be a call for Speaker Pelosi in here tonight ...
The Republicans should have crafted a bill with exactly what Obama ran on. Bring it to the floor, all the Repubs vote present, let it pass on Democrat votes, send it to the Seante and go home. When the economy tanks further they have no part of it, the Dems own it. It would give us a shot at the Senate in 2014. Instead they get cornered. The Dems play chess while the Repubs play checkers
Mark has money. He can’t relate to us people who don’t have much money to understand this is a very bad thing.
“No matter what Boehner and the Republicans do, they will get all the blame for the damage to this economy”
Don’t worry. Most people are busy on twitter and facebook, so they won’t notice. :)
Hush your mouth!
That would be the stupid conservative circular firing squad that is too intimidated by Obama's and Reid's victories in the last elections for President and Senate so they try to bully John Boehner from the current safety of the keyboard. Fey, delusional, throwing away any restraint on Obama in their tantrum.
The ONLY entity here that is in danger of going off a cliff is government. Government will go off the cliff if the debt ceiling is not raised. It is the ONLY issue that matters right now. Obama and the Dems are trying to scare everyone with this 'fiscal cliff' crap, but they are the only ones here in danger. Boehner needs to act accordingly and stick it to Obama and the Dems by holding fast and refusing to raise the ceiling. If he does that, then we automatically get $1.1 trillion in spending cuts immediately for the current fiscal year instead of some worthless promise that will be carried out a decade from now. Fiscal cliff? Bring it on! Let's start putting padlocks on entire departments and lay off some government workers for a change.
The GOP owns this mess, lock, stock, and barrel.
It started last February as I recall.
I don't expect I'll take a bite of this one, either.

Maybe the circular squad IS needed, to thin out the RINOs so real Americans who know and follow the Constitution will step up the plate instead of being denied by the two party cartel country-club.
There’s been no real talks, no real ideas, and hell, no real leadership for quite some time. Why not thin the herd? Because if you think another of the old boys club is going to make any difference, I’d say you’d better not hold your breath waiting for that to happen.
When you have the Weeper talking like a DEM...where’s the peeps here who, before the Nov 6 election, were SWEARING Boehner and boys would have kept NE Liberal Mitt in check?!
Some would say we’ve been tumbling down a cliff since 1913.
The Dems play chess while the Repubs play checkers
Thats what is going on here. Boehner gets crafty and tries to corner the kenyan as a proven liar by passing the Pelosi Plan but conservatives decide in the middle to keep on playing checkers.
The GOP has a terrible brand problem. The dims have successfully labeled the GOP as the party of the rich. Now the kenyan will use that to get everything he wants.
Permanent defense cuts, increased spending, massive tax increases and an “Obama tax cut”. The dims will run out the clock to 2014 and regain the House if this is their opposition. Then comes a VAT, EU style open borders, etc.
But at least we will still have our principles!
"Instead of constant bichin an gripin all the time"
Presumably the latter relates to the former...
With my current job I do finance counseling for people and prepare assistance packets for them. I have numerous government papers and pamphlets that I hand out from time to time.
I mailed a copy of the “How to create a budget” to the Speaker of the house. I hope he reads it and shares it.
I can't imagine anything on this earth that would cause Cantor to challenge this position against Boehner. There isn't a line, so to speak. I'd actually be (pleasantly) surprised if any of our (R) reps have the spine to do it.
